audio/video providers was created by m.aleo
Hi there,
I am wanting to place my website videos (and pictures) on a file hosting server because my hosting service will not allow me much space for videos. I also want only my website members to be able to access my videos. Do you know if you can post videos privately on any of your supported audio/video providers, so that the videos are not open to the public when you go to their site?

Thank you,
Marita

Hello Marita,

You can use Joomla! 's ACL and prohibit access to these articles for non-registered users. You can also override your template and deny access to specific parts of your template.
Then you can use the {mp3remote} or {mp4remote} tags to stream your audio files.

thank you for your help but i'm confused.i know that i can use joomla's acl to prohibit access to certain articles but what i need is a server to host my videos. i don't want to use youtube for example because i cannot hide the videos on youtube (ie the videos would be private on my site but public on youtube)... do you know what i mean?

True I can have the videos private on my site but anyone who goes to the provider's site (ex youtube) will be able to see the videos for free...

I know what you mean but you should use a custom solution.

Use Joomla!'s ACL to lock down these videos and search for an .htaccess solution that disables hotlinking for these local mp4 videos. Your hosting provider can assist you with this.

i found a .htaccess solution that disables hotlinking but the problem is that my web host provider will only allow me a certain amount of storage for media. so, if i disable hotlinking, that will prevent others from linking to the videos and images i have on my website, but i need somewhere else to store my media... please excuse me if i'm not understanding, i am not that familiar with hotlinking...

You have to contact your hosting provider about your storage issues. He might provide a solution or offer a more suitable hosting plan.
