Is there any way of removing the progress bar in the player; I have occasion to use a very narrow player and the progress bar overlaps other controls.

Hi. There is an option named "Display JW Player controls" at the plugin settings. Try to set it to "No" . Of course this setting applied only in videos where the JWPlayer is used, not in videos from providers like YouTube or Vimeo.
