I do not believe it is the template or other components. This happened to me after upgrading to 2.6.2. I tried different templates and eventhough the Bees templates handle the redirect better and actually land on a page that exits it does not redirect to the page I selected in the backend.
This is a redirect issue in K2 after profile save.

I solved my issue:
I played around with my custom k2 templates and discovered this:
Inside this folder:
templates/mytemplate/html/com_k2/templates
I have two custom templates
folder: Offer
folder: Profile
file: generic.php
file: generic_search.php
file: profile.php
file: register.php
I removed the files:
generic.php
generic_search.php
profile.php
register.php
The redirect started working properly and my custom k2 templates are still working perfectly

I had the same problem. User would get to a 404 page after registration.
I also bought a template (from templatemonster) and had a custom "register.php" file for my template.
The issue was in this "register" file. Everywhere in the file it had this : K2_JVERSION=='16'
I did a find/replace for 16 and replaced for 25 and now it works.
So if you have the same issue, you may be able to use your template custom register file by replacing the JVERSION in the file.
Hope this helps!

You won't have any functionality issues since you have just removed these files through the override only and not the core component files.

thanks for reply
I just removed all the 3 files i didn't override any code..
is there any issue by doing this deletion of files, why this create account is not working and showing 404 error with these files?

I don't quite understand you issue.
Your account details won't update in the backend or the frontend?
