Hi,
items listed in category view get this url structure:
index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=301:my-article&Itemid=659

the itemid parameter is causing the meta data for this item to be taken from the menu (id # 659)
i want it to be taken from the K2 item metadata

please take into account i have 200 url's already generated, indexed and masked by a SEF component, so i can't just remove the Itemid parameter, it will break those url's.

any idea how to solve this ?
Thanks

The itemid is the menu item's id. Without that the modules will not render correclty.

Also are you using K2's and Joomla! 's latest versions?
Is it working properly without that SEF component?

Hi Krikor, thank you for taking the time to answer.
Yes, we have the latest version. i understand the role the itemid has for the category, but when it comes to the items, what it does is associate the menu's meta data to each and every k2 item in the displayed category list.
This means we don't have control over unique k2 item meta data and its also causing duplicate meta data as they all inherit it from the menu.....
it doesn't matter if the SEF is on or off, same result.

Thanks

Which SEF extension are you using?
As you can see here for example -> www.joomlaworks.net/blog/item/191-sunsetting-k2mart-superblogger
The meta description is the item's and not the menu item's which is www.joomlaworks.net/blog/

Hi,
im using SH404SEF
but it doesn't matter because it happens even if its turned off, am i right ?

the original URL is what matters.

in your example i can't see the original URL but im guessing it doesn't have the "Itemid" parameter, therefor its not associated to any menu and is drawing the meta data from the category or k2 item itself.

my problem is when the category is linked to a menu, all items under it also inherit the menu association (Itemid) and also its metadata.
is this more clear ?

Thanks

@buzibuzi

You need to create menu links to also match the rest items. So you can either create a menu link for the rest categories or one menu link for each of the rest categories.

Hi Lefteris, thank you for your help.
I'm not sure i understand:

you are suggesting to create menu links to the categories ?

we already have menu items pointing to each category, this is what is causing the problem in the first place,
also
won't this create the same problem ? because it will add an ItemId to the URL, and this is something we don't want.

How do you approach this issue in general with other ? im assuming im not the only one with this problem and it is a very important one for K2 SEO.
how do you avoid K2 items from inheriting the menu meta data in category listing ?
is there some K2 configuration switch that can do this ?

Thanks again

Boaz

From the link I sent you (also check www.impactwrestling.com/news/item/6404-IMPACT-Results-Doll-House-Debuts,-New-1-KO-Contender,-EC3-Announces-His-Campaign-for-Champ-and-more ) it seems that there is an issue with the sh404sef integration or a 3rd party extension.

Are you using Joomla!'s, K2's and sh404sef latest versions?

Also have you checked in the sh404sef's forums to see if this a known issue?

like i said before, this is not relevant since SH404SEF was turned off and im not using any SEF, clearly the issue is with the itemid inherited by items listed in category view.
once we solve this i can check weather SH404SEF is causing further issues
thanks

@buzibuzi

There is no way to have a K2 page with no Itemid at all . If you create menu links for your categories that will match the categories/items then K2 will use their metadata. If you set no metadata on those links K2 will use the content metadata.

So, as i already answered before, you need to create menu links for K2.
