Category, Menu Item, Alias and SEF was created by quebecguitare
Hello, I am trying to have a nice SEF structure using K2 Category and Menu Alias, as this seems to be the only way to acheive control of SEF without a third party component.

I have a menu structure like this:

-Root Category
--Children Category 1
--Children Category 2
--Children Category 3

Could you tell me how to have the same SEF structure from Root Category level to Children Category?

E.g:
/root Category
/root Category/Children Category 1
/root Category/Children Category 2
/root Category/Children Category 3

Thank you
Regards

This is the structure you should have,
What is the structure you are getting?

PS. are you using sh404sef or a similar extension?

I am using native SEF.

The structure that I have is :

Root category
www.quebecguitare.ca/styles

Child Category
www.quebecguitare.ca/style/acoustique

I have to change the alias "styles" for "style". Joomla won't let me save it.

The menu item with the alias "style" is an internal link alias linked to to another menu item which is linked to the root category:

menu alias root category (alias style) > menu item to K2 root category (alias styles).

Is this done properly in 2 steps or I should do it directly in one step?

Thank you

I think you should simplify your setup

Remove the /style alias and rename /styles to style.
That should take care of the URLs.

Now you can add a new alias (not named styles).

The problem I have is that I want to display a Child Categories Listing View not the Items under the ROOT CATEGORY ONLY.

By removing the alias I get the following SEF structure for the Child Categories Listing View:
www.quebecguitare.ca/professeurs/content/288-style/

Hence the reason I went using an alias. But this alias cannot be the same as the other view it seems. I hope there is a nother way.

Thank you

If you want to display only the categories and not items, then you need to tweak your category's settings.

What you need is basically this? - demo.nuevvo.com/#takai/index.php?option=com_k2&view=itemlist&layout=category&task=category&id=14&Itemid=158

This layout is achieved by enabled the catalog mode.

The layout is already acheived.

It's just the SEF for the category layout that doesn't give me the same structure with the child category.

By removing the alias I get the following SEF structure for the Child Categories Listing View:
www.quebecguitare.ca/professeurs/content/288-style/

/content/ is a blank menu item right?
Try mapping style (the K2 category not the alias) into a menu item so you will get www.quebecguitare.ca/professeurs/style .

Hi Krikor, it doesn't work.

Mapping Style (K2 Category not the alias) into a menu item gives me the SEF structure:
www.quebecguitare.ca/professeurs/content/288-style/

Expected Result:
www.quebecguitare.ca/style/
--> This is a root category with catalog view that contains only child category, no item.

The subitems of that menu are:
www.quebecguitare.ca/style/acoustique
www.quebecguitare.ca/style/blues
www.quebecguitare.ca/style/classique
etc,

--> These are the child categories that contains the K2 Items

The menu Item are on special permission. You have access to the site.
Could you have a look?

Thank you
Regards

EDIT: Location of the menu items: Main menu - Subpages / Étape 1 - Styles
