I would like to list the most viewed items, preferably in a module position, on my homepage. I'm unsure how to do this - the homepage is currently mostly static.

If the Most Popular Content by Date Range Joomla plugin worked with K2, this would be fine - but it doesn't and is no longer maintained.

Any ideas?

The module called K2_content will do what you want. The order selection has an option for Most Popular. The module is already included when you installed K2
