One item TO multiple categories was created by siamnaulak
Hi, I am not sure if my question is practical :). By default one item can be assign to one category. Is there any option to assign one item to multiple categories? If yes, how do I do this?

Or, is there any extension available to achieve the same?

Thanks

Hi,

There is an extension for that: extensions.joomla.org/extension/additional-categories-for-k2 .

Hey! Just adding something: I know this tool and I tried it before, however it misses something that is vital. It would be awesome if by doing so, by having multiple categories, it would be able to assign multiple extra fields groups to the item.

Example:

I have these categories: Cat1 and Cat2

Cat1 has ExF1 as Extra Field Group applied to it.

So, Cat1 >> ExF1 and Cat2 >> ExF2

It would be very useful if I could create Item1 and apply it to both categories: Cat1 and Cat2, and therefore, Item1 would have ExF1 and ExF2 to fill in.

Thank you!

K2 V3 will have this functionality, but I do not know how well it will play with this extension.

Krikor,

Are you saying that the new version will have the ability to assign a K2 item to multiple categories?

That would be SO fantastic. I am testing now the Additional Categories for K2 that Leftiris suggested I try in another thread and it is certainly working but it requires me a hack of some K2 code. I would LOVE this functionality without hacking any of the K2 code.

I will install the latest build and play with it tomorrow.

Thank you, Sean Carney

@Sean Carney

K2 v3 will not have multiple categories per item. What Krikor wrote is that in K2v3 a category can have more than one extra field groups.

Thank you @Leftiris,

I knew he was referring to one or the other. :-) Anyhow, I do appreciate knowing. Looks like I will have to use the Additional Categories for K2 plugin. I am testing it and it is working although I sure do wish that I did not have to hack core K2 files in order to get it to display the counts in the proper categories. :-)

I may just decide not to display any counts as long as everything else works well.

I do appreciate your telling me about this extension.

Sean
