Problem with German language pack was created by Klaus Blum
The following problem:
In a fresh and multilingual Joomla installation with English and German languages I installed K2 2.7.1 and it works without any problems, with English as Front- and Backend language.
I then installed the German language pack 2.5 for K2 but noticed, that the language of K2 does not switch, neither in the backend nor in the front-end. It stays in English although the rest of Joomla (and its template from arrowthemes) switches language properly.
The funny thing is, that the German language pack seems to create a folder "de" in the language folder on the same level as the other 2 language folders de-DE and en-GB that contains the German langage files that all start with de.*. So these language files are not installed in the de-DE folder, where the rest of all language files reside.

Interesting is, that I have a second installation with the same Joomla template and same versions of K2 and language file, where K2 was installed as part of the initial installation (so not manually after installing Joomla and this template) and in this installation, there is no folder "de", but instead all K2 language files reside in the de-DE folder.

Any idea how I can make the languages switch in the new installation as they do in the other installation? (I tried to rename of de.* files into de-DE.* and copy them from the "de" folder into the "de-DE" folder but that did not work, so took no effect.

Would be greatful for assistance.
Klaus

Krikor !
I thank you for this simple hint. I now know what happened: I downloaded German, and not German (Germany).
Downloaded, installed, it works, but only the backend switches. The frontend is still showing English on the German pages.
Any idea why?
Thank you.

Does this menu item, category and item have the correct language assigned?

Yes, Krikor,
every article, category (there is actually only 1) and menue itself is set to German.
In a first attempt to solve that issue initially before I downloaded the proper de-DE version I copied the files of the first "de" German installation into the "de-DE" folder and renamed the beginning of the file names from de.* to de-DE.* to check whether that did the trick, which it didn't.
I left those files in the de-DE folder before I installed the proper de-DE (GErmany(German)) version in the belief that anything similar in name in the de-DE folder will be overwritten. Is that maybe the reason that some old files are left in the de-DE I should have deleted prior to installing the de-DE version? (I do not believe that but I just wanted to mentioned that, maybe that gives you an indea ....
Over to you :)
Klaus

Hello there, open an .ini file to make sure that they include German and not English.

Krikor,
I find 234 .INI files in /rf-9/administrator/language/de-DE and 95 *.INI files in /rf-9/language/de-DE , all of them starting with de-DE*
I opened some of them and I can see German translations.
Any further ideas?
