This is a generic 500 server error. It can be a million things. Set your error reporting to maximum in Joomla's Global Configuration and repeat whatever you did to trigger the 500 error again. You *should* be able to get an exact PHP error, which will provide more info as to where the problem occurs in the code or if it's some server limit that is reached (e.g. memory_limit).

I am having issue publishing articles that contain long text in K2 articles and Joomla articles.
When I try to publish particularly long articles, I get the following message.

Another piece of data that I just discovered while posting this. After about 2 minutes (I have never let it sit that long) I get a 500 Internal Server Error. Normally, I look for the changes to take effect on the website and hit cancel LONG before the 2 minutes is up.

Fotis, I am still working on this problem, though I have found that by deleting and recreating K2 categories that I the page displays correctly again. Still some pages seem to not respond to that solution.

If I access the page this way:

In the past 24 hours we have upgraded to PHP 7 and also upgraded J3.8.7 to J3.8.13.

Allvideos have stopped working, returnig a 500 Internal Server Error: Example:

Joomla 3.83, K2 2.80, PHP 7.1, MySQL 5.6 is the setup.

The rating stars just keep spinning when clicked.....it was working fine but now does this.

Error in console shows:

I've checked Hosting side and no errors registering and even installed K2 again.

Turned cache, GZip on and off no difference.

Working on a site ive inherited here which uses K2. Latest release of Joomla with content brought across from 2.5. Default page set as Home in the main menu and Home is a K2 category item which basically displayed a bunch of stuff. All was working well, then I went into the options tab to make it mirror the old 2.5 site. As soon as I saved these options, the homepage resulted in a blank white page with the heading '500 INTERNAL SERVER ERROR'.

Nothing in the server logs (apart from some PHP Notices re: variable assignments in the templates error.php file - but these dont matter). I have managed to extract this error from the hidden part of the theme error page:-

Cannot access protected property Exception::$message: Layout category_item_links not found. - Does anyone know what this means?

There are 2 other K2 Content modules created and showing up just fine on the homepage (they display only post / article titles no content). However the main K2 content element is the one causing the problem. I've tried deleting the menu item containing it & recreating, no joy there either.

Until I edited the 'options' on the tab for the menu item containing it, this all worked fine, that was the only change, and of course having now deleted the broken item & recreated from scratch it should be fine but it now isnt. What is going on?

The only way I got the page back is to create another menu item of another type, assign it to default, and then the page loads, showing the 2 smaller K2 content elements and they work, but not the main K2 Content element, which displays nothing, and when the only item on the page is it, it errors 500.

Your help would be much appreciated.

I'm in the process of building my site which is using K2 and Simple Image Gallery Pro. Initially I was having problems with SIG Pro in that the thumbnails would appear in the gallery at the bottom of a K2 item but when you clicked on them they wouldn't open. This appeared to be down to a JQuery conflict. I changed a few settings in SIG, using a different JQuery version and a different engine and that seemed to clear the problem and for a few days SIG and K2 items displayed fine.

Every now and then though I would find that when I went to view a K2 item in the front end that I had just created it wouldn't load and it would just look like the CSS hadn't loaded but also there wouldn't be any content either. All I would see would be a text version of the main menu, my website logo and a search box .Like this:


Typically I found that if I just refreshed the page it would load correctly so i just put it down to a cache issue.

However yesterday I added about a dozen new K2 items and after I added the last one I found that NO K2 items would load. I've tried clearing the website cache, browser cache, using different browsers, different computers and even different ISP's but nothing works. The main front page of the site loads fine as do NON K2 articles but any K2 Item I click on results in the image above. I haven't installed any other components/modules/plugins in between it working and it not working. It was literally working one minute and then seconds later completed stopped and the only thing I had done in between was to click on Save on the K2 item I had just created which was just text and one image.

When I view any of the K2 items in the backend they all look fine but in the front end Firebug reports:

ReferenceError: jQuery is not defined
"NetworkError: 500 Internal Server Error

When viewing non K2 articles, no such errors are reported.

I should also point out that I have created my K2 Items using Joomla Shine Pagebuilder however I have also tried creating a new K2 item using JCE Editor and exactly the same thing happens.

I found that to get SIG working I needed to use jQuery 1.11 with colorbox engine and loading jQuery from JQuery CDN. In K2 Parameters I've tried using the same jQuery version and think I've tried just about every available option but nothing seems to make any difference (and each time I change a setting a clear the cache).

In searching here I found someone with a similar problem and it was suggested that they move the K2 plugin to be just above the page-cache plugin (mine K2 plugin was almost at the top). I've tried moving it and it made no difference.

I've no idea what else to try now.
