Hi all,
I recently had to change my old website from PHP5.6 to PHP7.3 due to the migration of the server to MySQL 8. Now, whenever I click the edit button in the backend or the frontend to edit an item or category, I just get a white page, without any error message. I also can' tadd new items, the same behaviour. It is basically the views "item" and "category" that fail. Anybody an idea how to fix?
I am on K2 v2.11 latest version and Joomla 3.10.12.

Looks like running K2forJ4 has 2 paths:
1. standard install on J3 then run upgrade
2. start with a fresh J4 instance (or a migrated J3 without K2), then install K2forJ4 and run a mysql data migration.
If path 1 is fraught with peril, I'd go with path 2 which sidesteps errors/warnings generated by the migration checks. The GitHub repository already notes one that came up (and apparently has been resolved).

As for the author(s), well. it seems unlikely that JW would be working under a cloak of anonymity after being heaped with oppobrium in this forum and elsewhere. Also, when opening K2forJ4 in the backed, a pesky upgrade reminder pops up that points to the latest official version on GitHub. JW is pretty scrupulous about version management.

Personally, I wish JW all the very best and am always grateful to them for creating K2. And of course, the author(s)
of K2forJ4 earns a huge thank you as well.

Re-install K2 so it creates the needed index key.

To see a full log of what's wrong, set error reporting to maximum and ensure Joomla debugging is also enabled. I'm not sure if this was always the case, but with PHP 8 it seems to be.

Also switch to PHP 8.1 if you can and use the PDO MySQL database driver in Global Config. This is how we run the K2 demo site.

There are some considerations here concerning galleries, images and extra fields

Galleries
K2 galleries are stored in media/k2/galleries Each gallery has a folder with the id of the article as the name of the folder. 
You can copy this directory and all its content to the images folder

Joomla articles can make use of SIG-pro, but it handles it differently. Where K2 stores the reference in a separate database field, Joomla articles has the code within the text of the article, like {gallery}name_of_folder{/gallery}

To add this gallery code to your articles, add the following to the sql query:

Images
K2 has no reference to images in the database. The images are stored in media/k2/items/cache/. When you create a new article and add a header image, K2 will create 6 versions of that image. The filename is a MD5 hash of the word 'Image' and the id of the article (Note the capital I in Image). Followed by _Generic, _L, _M, _S, _XL and _XS. All images are in jpg format, even if the original is png or gif.

You can copy all the files from the cache directory to your images folder. I would suggest to create a subfolder called K2 or something of your liking, inside the folder stories.

You can choose which one of the 6 file sizes you want to use with your Joomla articles, and you can even use different sizes for intro text and for full text. The sql-code for creating a reference to the correct (extra large) file will be:

Joomla content stores a reference to both intro text and full text in one field images. The content of that field is JSON format.

Extra fields
All of this doesn't covert your K2 extra fields to Joomla custom fields. K2 stores the extra fields information in one singe field in the items table. The format is JSON.
Joomla stores the custom fields in a separate table, with a row for each custom field value and a reference to the article id.

I have no idea how to convert the extra fields to custom fields with sql.

Note
Be aware the query above will insert the K2 item ID into the Joomla content table. If you already have articles in Joomla content, this might lead to conflicts.

This means that the upgrade did not work as expected in the first place - only parts of K2 where updated.

This could be related to broken file ownership or access permissions or it could be related to partial support for a newer codebase.

Since you get the error "Unknown character set: 'utf8mb4'" can you please check and tell me which version of Joomla you're using and on which exact PHP and MySQL versions? You should get the latter from the system information page in the Joomla backend.

Thanks. Unfortunately, K2 v2.10.4 [Dev Build 20210205] still shows the same error (1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1) when trying to insert any item.

Moreover, there are no errors shown, however, items cannot be trashed or modified.

It depends, especially if you have other plugins extending K2's queries (which is possible).

If you can get me a detailed error log and given it's indeed a K2 issue (and not related to some 3rd party plugin), I'll fix it on the spot.

Hi! I have been using K2 (Version 2.10.3) on an old Joomla 3.9.24. I have recently upgraded the server (Microsoft-IIS/8.5) to PHP 7.4.7 and MySQL 8.0.23.

Although Joomla works ok, it seems that I can't post new K2 items since (MySQL "syntax error 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ')}' at line 1").

My question is, is there any workaround, or should I downgrade MySQL?

I need help with K2 User Login and Logout functionality. Actually, my customer wants to have, for their staff, a login via Frontend like on the old website.
Sometimes, I can log-in, but not logout. I tried to set many many different login module settings, settings for the user, etc, but not successful:

Pass along the SQL error to your hosting company so they can adjust the server's my.cnf configuration accordingly (they probably need to enable innodb_large_prefix).
