Joomla 4

Category: English K2 Community

Joomla 4 is in the "Release Candidate" phase which means it's still being tested. Until Joomla 4 is (fully) finalized, we won't be releasing any updates to K2 to support it. There is no point in working on something that might break (and never mind the fact that J4 is in the "Release Candidate" phase).

Once Joomla 4.0.0 (stable) is released, we'll have K2 ready for it within the first 2-3 "patch" versions (e.g. until 4.0.1 to 4.0.3 is released).

In any case, Joomla 3 will be supported for years to come. And since migrating a site with K2 is a piece of cake (as it supports all Joomla versions from 1.5 to 3.x), I would choose the tried & tested Joomla 3 release for now and upgrade once Joomla 4 has had a few "patch" versions released.

Hi,
I'm thinking of using K2 for a new website but is there to be an upgrade for Joomla 4?

Ah, IIS... Feeling adventurous I guess...

Please try v2.10.4 (dev) from getk2.org/downloads/?f=K2_Development_Release.zip - you can safely upgrade.

There's an unescaped character in your content. Please upgrade to v2.10.4 (dev) from getk2.org/downloads/?f=K2_Development_Release.zip - this should resolve your issue.

I believe it's some problematic CDN node in Latin America. Others reported this some months ago and it's been fixed in K2 v2.10.4 (dev) which is safe to upgrade from: getk2.org/downloads/?f=K2_Development_Release.zip

Error Message after upgrade to php8.0-fpm

Category: English K2 Community

This is most likely an outdated K2 template override. Switch error reporting in Joomla's Global Configuration to maximum to see the exact file and line that this error occurs in.

In most cases it's just a matter of checking if an array is set before counting its items.

So if you have something like:
if (count($items)) { // do something, e.g. run a "foreach" loop }

change it to:
if (isset($items) && count($items)) { // do something, e.g. run a "foreach" loop }

Error Message after upgrade to php8.0-fpm

Category: English K2 Community

We use K2 for our joomla website. After upgrading to php8.0-fpm (we run on nginx) we encountered issues. Whenever we open a K2-Item the following error message appears:
> 0 count(): Argument #1 ($var) must be of type Countable|array, null given
> It appears the page you were looking for doesn't exist. Sorry about that.

When opening other post created for examle with easyblog they display just fine.
Any ideas?

Probably some misconfiguration... If it's an entirely white page, then this means some PHP error is occurring (possibly by some PHP upgrade on your server) within your K2 overrides.

Enable maximum reporting in Joomla's Global Configuration settings and copy/paste back here the error you see.

Thanks Fotis,
Good thought but no luck. It's a Debian 10 install with mariadb 10.3/mysql 5.7. php 7.3 No recent upgrades, although the problem has existed for quite some time. I tried a few variations with sql_mode= but no change.
I'll park this for now and dig at it further when I have some spare time. Thanks for the pointers.

Cheers...Vince

You're welcome Vince.

As a sidenote, perhaps you need to set:
sql_mode = ""

in your MySQL or MariaDB my.cnf file as the upgrade path in Joomla may have left some columns with incompatible properties on newer database versions, IF you happened to have recently updated your database software or the OS - e.g. Ubuntu 20.04 does not allow you to install MySQL before vesion 8.0 without a gazillion hacks around it, which is known to "nag" for null dates on "date" fields by default, as an example.

Thanks,

I'll upgrade K2 this week - after church, never fun trying to fix things last minute!

All categories and menus are public or at the most registered. Plus when I embed the videos into a Joomla article, there is no permissions problem.

Thanks again,
Linda

First of all, K2 v2.6 is many, many years old. Upgrade please. And make sure you do the same for Joomla as well.

Secondly, it's most likely a Joomla user group permissions issue at menu and/or category level.

Fotis wrote: It's not a bug. It's was just never implemented as most folks used Disqus or Facebook comments for the social integration they offer.

Reporting is a different feature and of course it works as expected.

Like I said, it's not implemented yet.

My task is a serious website for psychoanalysts - not a "social" network. Under no circumstances should any data run via Facebook, Disqus or any other - social useless - external services. These services just want to collect data to make us as transparent as possible. We should be at their mercy. This is more for inexperienced play children, bullies, haters and subversives.

In addition, the comments should also have a serious look and feel and completely dispense with gravatars (or what these funny pictures are called). It is only commented under real names.

All in all, I am very satisfied with the serious appearance that my predecessor conjured up with the help of K2 and I want to avoid having to integrate one of these typical colorful and playful comment tools at all costs.

Can I assume that the function in K2 will be upgraded soon? Or can you give me hints on how I can clone the reporting system and repurpose it to notify new comments? That can not be that hard...?

Regards

Problem with K2 and MySQL 8.0.23

Category: English K2 Community

Hi! I have been using K2 (Version 2.10.3) on an old Joomla 3.9.24. I have recently upgraded the server (Microsoft-IIS/8.5) to PHP 7.4.7 and MySQL 8.0.23.

Although Joomla works ok, it seems that I can't post new K2 items since (MySQL "syntax error 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ')}' at line 1").

My question is, is there any workaround, or should I downgrade MySQL?

Thanks in advance

Change right-click functions

Category: English K2 Community

Before I upgraded to Joomla 3x (and migrated the content to K2), when I right-clicked my mouse in the main content editing field, it brought a menu that allowed me to correct misspelled words, etc. When I right-click in K2 I got a menu for things like creating tables, which doesn't really work with my workflow.

Is there a way to change what is available when I right-click the mouse?

K2 image upload not working with PHP 7.4

Category: English K2 Community

Hi Fotis, we upgrade but the problem persist when we selected a image from the server!

"Notice
The image was not uploaded. Please ensure that you used a valid image file and that file uploads are properly configured on your server."

Now we have a new error when click on "ExistingImage" (this link https://......../administrator/index.php?option=com_k2&view=media&type=image&tmpl=component&fieldID=existingImageValue#elf_l1_Q29udGVuaWRvcy8tQmFja3Vw)

Refused to apply style from 'https://.../administrator/css/theme.css' because its MIME type ('text/html') is not a supported stylesheet MIME type, and strict MIME checking is enabled.
