JOsh created the topic: removing categories from urls
Hi, have made menus and used k2 to strip out the item ids but what i have is the this type of url

www.domain.com/construction/using-k2/k2-item

so I want to remove construction7using-ks out and just have k2-item in the url, if its not possible using settings what seo/sef extension do you recommand.

with normal joomla taking out the categories is easy and I had it with k2 too (i think) but cant seem to do it again

For this thing I do not think you need an SEO extension.
The id can be stripped by using K2's advanced SEF settings.

At this point I am guessing you used the quickstart package.
The quickstart package contains only 3 top level menu items construction, medical and technology.

What you need to is get rid of all the menu items you do not to use, in this case medical (and everything under it) and technology (and everything under it).

Now move everything located under contsruction to the top level.
Delete the Home menu item (NOT THE CONTSTRUCTION/ DEFAULT ONE).
Finally rename Construction to Home.

Cant make that work.
Yes I want to remove "construction" from the article but also if possible I want the url to just show the item article or category so if I have
domain.com/category/itemarticle I just want the url to be domain.com/itemarticle or if a category menu just domain.com/category
In joomla itself and in k2 using boring old templates it can be achieved but using your template it seems to be not so easy.
I tried your suggestion and it seems to mess the whole menu system up and drop down stops working and category still shows in the url.
I think the usual sef ext sh404sef might not be so good anymore and I tried creating dummy menus set in top level menu but no go. Would a bit of custom code possible solve the issue?

It is not a matter of Joomla!/k2 or the templates.
The domain.com/itemarticle can only be achieved with an SEO/SEF extension.

There is no need to add any custom code, this is default Joomla! menus.

The method I suggested will strip the /construction/ part from all your URLS.
To get rid of all categories you need sh404

understood but even when I follow yr instruction and strip out the template name it throws the menu line to the very top and the drop down feature disappears with sub menus appearing in 2nd menu position. Havent figurer out how to stop that or get home to appear in main menu position but still strip it out.

However stripping out categories can be achieve without sef404 by creating dummy menus but I can only achieve this with normal none responsive templates.

That is a Joomla! feature, not a K2 or a template one. This is an overkill however. Normally this is used only for items like about-us or TOS. (Check my post on the K2 forum).

Now for your menu setup.
Can you use the contact form nuevvo.com/contact to send me backend credentials ?

It's fixed now.
You had not removed the construction alias and moved everything else up one level.
