a) What's your MySQL version?
b) Are you using any third-party extensions with K2? E.g. some multi-categorization extension for K2?

I am having this error when trying to open K2 tag pages:
Error: 1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'AND t.published = 1' at line 4

The error is intermittently and just occurs when use the browser in Incognito Mode. The problem is causing Google crawl problems affecting our SEO.
I have read the forum and checked similar issues, so I have disabled some plugins and modules, but the problem still continue.

Any idea?

Hi all, hope you are well and safe.

To cut a very long and probably quite boring story short, I've had to rebuild a Joomla site running under localhost (Xampp) after a hard disk failure. I'm having to do this because the site backup was corrupt (you can imagine what a happy day that was). I've created a new Joomla instance, and imported all the old tables as .sql files into it. No problem. All the data is there.

But I am left with an odd problem. Now, all the hyperlinks are invisible in the K2 items. Invisible until I hover my mouse over them, when they magically appear, yet when I do that they are showing as plain text (although they do actually work as hyperlinks). Oh, this applies to K2 Category titles as well. They are similarly invisible until I hover over them.

I am assuming this is an issue with css somewhere - either K2.css, or possibly the template .css, but I cannot see where the error is. Would any of you kind people have an idea what has gone wrong and how it can be fixed? Sadly I cannot give you a URL to investigate as it's running on a local server. I'm using Favthemes' Favourite template, if that helps.

I should be very grateful for any help with this problem as this website represents three years' work and I obviously want to get it running again!

Perhaps your server is overloaded and the SQL query that is executed to delete these comments never finishes, thus the error.

This is most likely to happen on shared hosting environments.

For now, I would recommend disabling (or protecting) comments. If the spam comments are unpublished, you can just delete them all in one go with "delete all unpublished comments" (top right in the Comments admin page).

Hi All,
I'm slowly learning how to build a site with Joomla (just on my PC at the moment and I'll transfer it later on OVH to replace my old current B&B site).
I just bought Falang and after activating it, my site worked fine but when I activated all the Falang plugins I suddenly got a blank screen:
"An error has occured.
0 class 'K2Model'not found
Return to control panel"

I cannot return to the control panel! Nothing works! I cannot even log out! I only get this error message.

I've found on the net that I should maybe try this:
Use Phpmyadmin to disable the plugin in the #_extensions table. Change "enabled" 1/0
I have installed XAMPP on my PC and when I click on MySQL Admin I can get to phpMyAdmin but after that I don't know how to get to the #_extensions table ( or K2 for that matter?)

HELP please! I feel desperate. I've spend weeks on creating this new site....
If you have the answer please give me step by step instructions as I'm far from being computer savvy!

A 500 error means the server is overloaded. Not because of your site but because of other sites on it.

If this happens regularly, you might want to consider changing hosts.

Updating to Joomla latest does not put additional load on the site, let alone when you're using K2 which is lighter in terms of SQL queries compared to Joomla articles. Overall the combo Joomla/K2 is far more performant than many other CMSs. I'm just referencing this in case they slap on the "Joomla is crap at performance, go with WordPress" motto. Which is an epic lie for the record...

None of the Styleware K2 extensions have been supported since 2016, including swmap. I used to have some of their extensions and have had to phase them out when the developers stopped communicating and bringing out updates. Up to then they were great, apart from SWtabs which was very buggy.

I have recently reported their extensions as abandonware so hopefully they will be taken off the Joomla site soon.

Try my suggestions. Enable them all EXCEPT redis, mongodb, newrelic, luasandbox, mysqli (that's correct, you use the newer module already which is mysqlnd), odbc.

If you get a specific conflict error, share it back with us and I'll tell you what to do.

I can only assume the plugin "swmap" is pretty outdated and won't work with the latest version of K2 or possibly your server's PHP if it's been upgraded. If this is a plugin for easily embedding maps, there are many alternatives out there. And even if you don't like one, you can always create a "textarea" type extra field and just embed maps as iframes.

a little digging resulted that in JROOT/plugins/k2/swmap/v2.php on line 120 where the following code is listed the $item->catid is empty:

this occures on joomla v3.9.15 with k2 in version 2.10.2, 2.10.1 and 2.10.0 but not on 2.9.0, in this version no error occures?

could you tell me if this bug is allready known and/or when it will be solved?

The problem is probably related to your MySQL (or MariaDB) configuration. To be exact and as described here dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/innodb-limits.html if "innodb_large_prefix" is set to false, this limit is imposed to databases with utf8mb4_unicode_ci collation.

Your hosting company may have set this option explicitly for backwards compatibility reasons (the default is enabled).

The other option is to download and extract the K2 zip file and edit the file /administrator/components/com_k2/install.mysql.sql replacing all instances of "CHARSET=utf8mb4 DEFAULT COLLATE=utf8mb4_unicode_ci" with "CHARSET=utf8 DEFAULT COLLATE=utf8_general_ci". Then repackage the contents you extracted into a new zip file and finally install that file in Joomla.
