Absolutely - it's a box that should have been upgraded years ago but there's other complications which meant we kept putting it off. To be honest it's says a lot about Joomla and K2 that everything kept running this long.

If you check Joomla's technical requirements for MySQL you'll see that the recommended version is 5.5.x either way: downloads.joomla.org/technical-requirements

Hey Ive been updating about 20 + websites to the new k2 v 2.10.3, I have run into a routing / SEF issue with the recent upgrade, if you are using the K2 Tools "Category List (menu)" as a sidebar menu or something for a blog, or news articles, also for when using $this->item->category under any of the K2 itemlist templates.

all your category URLs will be giving 404 CATEGORY NOT FOUND.

The Urls will change from these between the versions:

v 2.9.0 = "blog/content/subcategory"
to v 2.10.0 - 2.10.3 "blog/content/blog/subcategory"

it seems to be adding the parent category in twice.

Could someone look into this.

If you can have PHP 7.2, you can clearly update to MySQL 5.6 or 5.7. If MySQL is stuck on 5.1 because of the OS's repos, then use MySQL's official repo which is a much better option either way.

Every other solution would be a hack...

Hi Fotis - that didn't work for us. Even after a find and replace on that file we're getting the following error on uploading the new ZIP. Could "utf8mb4" be referenced elsewhere?

The risk is not PHP per se but Joomla 2.5.

If you already have a site in 2.5, it's really not a big deal to upgrade it to 3.x: docs.joomla.org/Joomla_2.5_to_3.x_Step_by_Step_Migration

And K2 is the least to worry about.

Hi I am getting a strange misaligned page on the K2 edit page on the front-end only. Back-end is fine.

This started after the 2.10.3 update, after I upgraded from 2.10 directly to 2.10.3.

I am using just standard default template so nothing special. However, I have noted some extra field errors on the browser dev tools.

I have attached screen shots of the extra field setup in K2 , the error report and the K2 item edit page.

I do not understand why it is reporting non-unique ids for these 2 extra fields. They have completely different names, alias' and DB id's.

Desperate for any ideas of how to resolve and help will be much appreciated. Many thanks

When you uninstall K2 (as with software in general) expect all its data to be deleted. So media files in /media/k2/ and K2's database tables are erased.

As such, you'd need to restore a full backup and then perform the upgrade via the Joomla update manager.

Switch to the URL router from v2.10.2 for now.

K2 v2.10.4 will be out by the end of the week to address this issue.

I assume you're using an older version of K2.

The latest is v2.10.3 and you can download it from: getk2.org

It's safe to upgrade from any K2 version you're already on.

a) Don't do that. There's a reason it's loaded in the component.php sub-template.

b) You should upgrade to K2 v2.10.3 ASAP.

Did you try changing the main k2 Settings. User SEO tab, then under Custom SEF URLs there is option "Use the category ID in the URL" Not sure why it would have changed in upgrade, but you may need to just turn that on if you want the ID in there.

After upgrade all menu entries pointing to k2 articles failed, yet the url of the articles reamined the same.

for example:

My article url is:

verificiencia.com/quackwatch/7-quackwatch/172-vitamina-c-las-dosis-altas-previenen-los-resfriados.html

But after update the menu linking to the article points to:

verificiencia.com/quackwatch/quackwatch/172-vitamina-c-las-dosis-altas-previenen-los-resfriados.html

So it reports 404, not found.

Somehow the part "7-quackwatch" becames "quackwatch", just in the menu.

The same goes to all my k2 articles. Other parts of the site not K2 works.

I downgraded to v2.09 and the site is working now. For some reason... both url work now.

(note: I am looking for the precvious version K2 v2.10.2)
