So, I've browsed the forum trying to find an answer to how to add a preview image to videos (so the video player doesn't just display a black screen before you press "play") and I came across this:

*****************
"This example of embedding a local FLV video with a preview image uses the following tag:

{flv img="segeln-preview.jpg" showstop="true"}Segeln-20070428-Start{/flv}The video file can be downloaded here. The preview image is located in images/stories and can be downloaded here."
******************

I tried this and it doesn't work. If I add the code like this...
{flv}myvideonamehere{/flv}
...the video works great, but there is no preview image.

If i create a shot of the video, and place it in the images/stories folder (btw, my videos are in images/stories/videos) and then add this code...
{flv img="myvideonamehere.jpg" showstop="true"}myvideonamehere{/flv}
...the the video player doesn't appear on the front end, but rather the code itself shows where the video player should be, which is basically means that the plugin doesn't understand that code, so it treats it as normal text in an article.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Ok i found the answer. I just made a take a snapshot of the vid (using VLC media player), named the jpg image the exact name as my video, and uploaded the image to the same directory as my video. The preview image worked automatically, no special code required.

Found this in another thread.  :D

After trying for several hours by myself it’s time to ask for some expertise because it does not work for me.

I made an own template with Artisteer and would like to present wmv video files (not local) with AllVideos. The video starts but it is not possible for me to replace the black screen at the initial startup with an image preview.
As indicated on the forum I have a video file with the name: homepage_bali_2012_1e.wmv
Furthermore I have a picture with the name: homepage_bali_2012_1e.jpg
All the video and corresponding jpg files are in the directory: martie-en-tiny.com/public_html/joomla25/images/videos/duiken

When I am looking on the homepage (joomla25.martie-en-tiny.com/ct-menu-item-7/ct-menu-item-13) I still see the black screens and not the image preview I hoped to see.

The sourcecode of this item is:
<td><span style="font-family: arial, sans, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">
  {wmvremote}</span>
  <a href="images/videos/homepage_bali_2012_1e.wmv">joomla25.martie-en-tiny.com/images/videos/duiken/homepage_bali_2012_1e.wmv
  </a>{/wmvremote}</td>

Does anyone have a clue what I’m doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same problem as originally described by jlb4350. {mov}video_filename{/mov} outputs the desired video, with a black screen; {mov img="image_filename.jpg"}video_filename{/mov} outputs itself as a line of code. Basically adding a parameter to the tag breaks the plug-in.

Unfortunately, I did NOT have any success with jlb4350's solution, of just giving the image the same name and putting it in the folder.

There must be some way to show preview images; I see them on your demo site. So, how?

You have to upload an image in the same path and the same filename.

Hi,

is there a different solution necessary if using the remote function?

I have placed my video file on a remote server: myremotedomain/video11.mp4

In my Joomla article I have this code inserted:

{mp4remote}myremotedomain/video11.mp4{/mp4remote}

This way the video works, but it shows a black box before playing.

To receive a preview, I made a screenshot of the video, named it "video11.jpg" and placed it into the same folder as "video11.mp4". Nevertheless, no preview appears in the video, there is still only a black box.

Will I have to add some code in order to connect the picture to the video?

I appear to be having the same issue with the poster frames. I have setup my video which is a mp4 and created a poster frame with the same name in the same folder but it still will not show.
Poster frame rad2.bee2.com/images/video/Dell%20Imaging%20RAD.jpg
Video rad2.bee2.com/images/video/Dell%20Imaging%20RAD.mp4
You will see they both exist and are in the correct place but the poster frame still does not show.

Does this functionality work with mp4 files? As all the users who have said it works have been using FLVs.
