OK, I just now discovered the New Topic button.  I posted this as a reply that will not likely be viewed.  So to the question about code showing in module is this answer:

Make sure that you have enabled the Prepare content option through the module settings.

But I have searched everywhere and don't see any where to find this option to enable Prepare content.  I would greatly  appreciate some guidance on where exactly to do this enable thing.

In the Custom HTML module if you go to the Basic Options you will locate the Prepare Content option which should be Enabled in order for the content plugins to render through your modules.
