Hi I just bought and installed the Frontpage slideshow on my Joomla website.

I found out it creates 3 different-size versions for each of my images (stored at media/com_fpss/cache) which makes this folder considerably large than it should be! - Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

If I delete the extra versions will the module still work properly?

This is how it work! You cannot delete them.
However, 10 slides are not too big!
