Hi there,

I was wondering how can I have different extra field names depending the front end chosen language?

For example if I have an extra field called "Details", this should be automatically become Spanish or Greek - or what ever - if the user decide to change the preferred language.

Any ideas? Do I have to put them in the language files and call them dynamically in my template? I can't think anything else. B)

Is this so hard? I thought that It would be a one paragraph answer for someone that use this professionally.

Hi george,

Have you setup all your languages in Joomla 1.7 ? You can create items and select the Language in Author Publishing Status

Hi Cannan,

Of course I did that. My only problem is the extra field names. Those must be some how be different if I choose another language. ( I mean the title of extra fields).

I don't want to create the same extra fields for each language and then filter them with my template.

Hi,

It will be the same as you create your content. You don't expect Joomla or K2 to translate the English language to French or German automatically!! You have to manually install a language file and translate the content. Eg: You have a default language in english for all the item and you create another language for the same items. The same will apply to extra field titles.

The extra field title is user typed input and not from the component.

Hi Kannan,

The component is working fine in the languages installed. Our question was WHERE can we insert the traduced EXTRAFIELD TITLE. In which file? Which data base table?

Eg. You have a extra field called "brand"in the English language, when I switch to Spanish I would like to have the EXTRAFIELD title shown as "marca"

Hi Falko,

OK, here's how i would do it without editing or hacking any file or database.

I want to create a site in English and Spanish.

First i will create 2 categories
Shampoo (for english)
Champú (for spanish)

Second i will create 2 extra field group
More Info (for english) -> assign it to Shampoo category
Más Información (for spanish) -> assign it to Champú category

Third i will create 2 extra field text type
Brand (for english) to the group More Info
Marca (for spanish) to the group Más Información

When i'm adding an item -

For English Language:
Title : Axe Brand Shampoo 100ml -> into category Shampoo
When i click Extra Field tab, i will see Brand and i type Cheap in the text field
Save

For Spanish Language:
Title: Axe Shampoo Marca 100ml -> into category Champú
When i click Extra Field tab, i will see Marca and i type Barato in the text field
Save

Now, guess what happens when i switch the language from english to spanish?

You need to create menu item, category and contents for each language and use the Joomla Language switch plugin.
