Removing Social Sharing icons was created by Jacqueline Kirkpatrick-Keller
Hi, I need to hide the Social Sharing icons (Google Buzz, Facebook, Digg, Delicious, etc.) that show up on my items because I don't need them at this time. In the various parameters, I cannot find where to hide them! I check in all of the category and item parameters, and there are various social icon controls, but none of these turn off the row of Social sharing icons I'm talking about.

Will installing this template override help me? I am running K2 version 2.5.7. Should I install the latest template override (getk2.org/assets/files/K2_v2.5.1_override_package.zip)?

Please let me know.

Parameters like if social icons display are controlled by Category, Item, or Menu settings. If you create a master category that says _DEFAULT SETTINGS then make each other category get its settings from _DEFAULT SETTINGS and they should go away. :)

Thanks for your quick reply, Nicole.

I thought I pretty much did as you described. All of my items should inherit their properties from the category settings -- category and item view options. I understand that.

However, I turn off everything in my category parameters that apply to social icons, and they still wont go away.

Help!

If you don´t mind using brute force and doing this every time you update K2 go to:

\components\com_k2\templates\listing\item.php

and delte from line 304 to 351

Enjoy

Hello.

I have the same problem, but the solutions posted here doesn´t solved the problem.
I have any option for social button an social sharing disabled or set to hide, but at the articlepage there ist still a link for social sharing.
Even if I edit the K2.css and remove all the socialsharing-code there will be displayed a link "clickme" which open up an empty modal-window.
The link is like this: domain.de/index.php/category/article#itemSocialSharing
I´m using the joomfreak Vihrea template.

Can anyone please help me?

Hello Droste,

This is code from your template overrides so you need to ask your template developer for information.

If you are sure you edited the correct category settings (check for inheritance issues) then there is code hardcoded on your template.
