I am trying to make a download portal with Joomla and K2. However I have a few doubts about how to do it.

I already set up an item that contains the application info and then a group of extra fields that contain certain info about the application like it's operative system, version, type of license, and the download and buy now links.

I am unsure on how to do this part. Is there a way for K2 to count how many times the download link has been clicked and display it on one of the extra fields?

I have thought of making a download.php script that would check the item ID of the item being displayed, check against a database and retrieve the download link.

How do you think it would be the best way to do this?
Is it possible to retrieve the item ID and add it to the download now extra field and pass it to download.php?

I want to put some kind of script similar to the ones used in Download Portals for the "Descargar demo" (It means download) and "Comprar producto" (means buy product)

Download portals seem to trigger some kind of webpage where they show a few ads and display a message such "We are preparing your download" and after a few seconds the dwnload dialog comes up so you can save or run the file.

How is this done in Download Portals and how can I integrate it with Joomla or K2?

why do you need to check the item id, and look up the file to download?
use the attachment that is built in, and format it to look as you desire

Does it let you track how many times a file has been downloaded?
Is it possible to display downloads in one of the additional fields?
Some trial versions of programs can take up to 500 MB or more...

Well, download portals seem to work quite different. For example let me show you one:

If you click in the Download button you get to a new page that says: "Thank you for downloading WinZip
Your download will begin in a moment. If it doesn't, click here to try again."

That page displays ads and takes some time to start up the download
