SEF urls, just can't get it to work 100% was created by Lex Thoonen
Hi, I've searched the forum but I just can't get them to work as I'd really like. There are some strange things, for example...

This category for example, I've got a link in the main menu to it:

www.gran-canaria-info.com/content/day-trips/excursions

Has this 'item' in it, and when I click on it in the category listing it shows me this:

www.gran-canaria-info.com/gc-200-gran-canaria-s-most-spectacular-road

(which is okayish, I'd prefer
www.gran-canaria-info.com/day-trips/excursions/gc-200-gran-canaria-s-most-spectacular-road
)

but that's not the worst problem. When I link to that item in another item, using a JCE link thing, the link is:

www.gran-canaria-info.com/content/sports-activities/water-sports/wind-surfing/gc-200-gran-canaria-s-most-spectacular-road

And this bit:
www.gran-canaria-info.com/content/sports-activities/water-sports/wind-surfing/

is used a lot.

It as well shows all articles:
www.gran-canaria-info.com/content/sports-activities/water-sports/wind-surfing

which are in a completely different category than sports-activities etc etc. When I there click on an article, that bit leaves the scene and I'm looking at

www.gran-canaria-info.com/beaches/pebbles-and-peace-at-gran-canaria-s-playa-del-aguila

again (for example).

I think this is me, doing something wrong but I haven't found out what yet.

Anybody an idea?

Thanks!

Hello,

Lex this has to do with your menu setup.
Try mapping all of your K2 categories in menu items so your item URLs will have a standard pattern.

Hi Krikior, thanks for your answer!

I created a hidden menu (no module for it) and sticked a new menu item for all the categories that I didn't want in the main menu.

But it's still not working.

SO I'm wondering, do I need a button for each sub category as well? (Although the ones that give problems with this link thing in JCE were in a straight "parent" category, "beaches".)

Thanks for thinking along!

I've now got these two categories that should point to the same place:

www.gran-canaria-info.com/content/sports-activities/water-sports/wind-surfing

which contains *all* items of the whole site (and it shouldn't, it should havce only 1)

and this one:

www.gran-canaria-info.com/wind-surfing

which is as are all the others, shows only the windsurf items.

Preferrably, the first one should not have all the site's items, but I'd like it to be:

www.gran-canaria-info.com/sports-activities/water-sports/wind-surfing

(in stead of including the "content" bit, which is just a menu button)

I've created links to all categories but this is still the same.

Please help, as we really want to get on with the site but the urls have to be correct and stay the same from then.

Your help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Which path did you follow to land on the www.gran-canaria-info.com/content/sports-activities/water-sports/wind-surfing
URL ?

It is normal for Joomla! to show different content (K2 categories in this case) through menu items by changing the URL manually. What is not normal is your site printing these URLs.
So.. was this URL printed by a module/ extension or did you follow your regular menu path?

PS. The menu item that contains all of your content should be placed bellow all other menus.
PS 2. www.gran-canaria-info.com/sports-activities/water-sports/wind-surfing This structure requires two more parent items (diff menu structure).

Hi Krikor. Thanks, for your time etc!

The first url (the long one) is the one just using the menu at the site.

www.gran-canaria-info.com/content/sports-activities/water-sports/wind-surfing

If I click on the wind surf article there, it takes me to:

www.gran-canaria-info.com/wind-surfing/windsurfing-on-gran-canaria

If I now, for example in the breadcrumbs click on "wind-surfing" it takes me to

www.gran-canaria-info.com/wind-surfing

So none of them were manual.

That last link is the way I'd like the category to be, not showing *all* items as is the longer one doing.

I'll upload an image of my settings in K2 sef part, so you can see what they are.

Thank you!

Sorry people, my big mistake!

At the wind surf menu button, somehow there was no category at all selected.

So I guess no more "all articles" there now.

I'll see if I can manage to solve the rest, about the parent categories disappearing.

Thanks for your time and sorry for abusing it!

It's still not easy :)

On this article:

www.gran-canaria-info.com/news/spanish-court-judgement-goes-against-anfi-timeshare-resort

I created a link with JCE and the link button, to this K2's item: gran-canaria-s-tropical-anfi-beach

I don't know why, but the link it creates (now thank god not to the wind surfing thing no more) is pointing to:

www.gran-canaria-info.com/news/gran-canaria-s-tropical-anfi-beach

Which is weird, as that item is in the category "Beaches".

When I follow that link, the urls is www.gran-canaria-info.com/news/gran-canaria-s-tropical-anfi-beach all right, but the bread crumbs show

Home > News > Beaches > Gran Canaria's Tropical Anfi Beach

So there it does show "beaches", but now as a sub category from "news", which it isn't.

Man this is driving me mad.... I'll see if I can see any errors in the settings.

Which breadcrumbs module are you using?
K2 Tools or mod_breadcrumbs?
