I just tested a different client's site using the previous k2 2.7.1 Dev and the download link works fine.

It had the same url structure as the other one: /index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&task=download&id=76_48b65d31ad1d315cbe90fcdf9f0763d0

So it doesn't appear to be a bug with k2.

****

I think it has to do with changing the "Change root attachments folder" to "../images/podcasts"
Do you see an issue with my path?

The reason I did this was so the user could select the same mp3 in the k2 media tab using the "Browse media on server".

Can you try images/podcasts instead?

Yes, changing the root attachments folder" to "images/podcasts" allows the download link to work on the frontend BUT now the uploaded attachment does not get saved in "images/podcasts". That was why I had to add the ../ in the first place :-(

I actually can't find that specific uploaded attachment anywhere on the server. I even checked the old root folder but nothing is here: /media/k2/attachments

If I erase the new folder and leave root attachments folder blank then everything works.

So it appears that something is stopping a custom root attachments folder from working.

The reason I bad a custom root att folder is because the client also makes the same mp3 available using the media tab. But the
"Browse media on server" only looks in the "images" folder. I suppose a workaround is to get the media/k2/attachments folder to also appear when you click "Browse media on server".

But this sounds like it should not be necessary if I can just get the custom root attachments folder working.

Can you check which folder is being requested? It could something like a simple typo.

This is getting frustrating.

Now I can't even leave the "Change root attachments folder" empty. It just fills my custom "images/podcasts" back in upon saving.

I am trying to replicate the issue.
I can pretty much enter any value, including blank values.

Please bear with me,

Yes, changing the root attachments folder" to "images/podcasts" allows the download link to work on the frontend BUT now the uploaded attachment does not get saved in "images/podcasts". That was why I had to add the ../ in the first place :-(

You never specified where the uploads were being saved.

Thank you for your continuing effort to resolve this.

I have tested the same issue on another k2 site. I changed the root attachment folder to images/test and uploaded a k2 attachment. The file did not appear in images/test. It does not appear in media/k2/attachments either. The backend k2 item attachment download link works. But the frontend also shows the "File does not exist".
