Re: Getting 404 page when trying to add item was created by Dominick Inglese
I am having this 404 error when adding an K2 "item" to a menu item. Everything works fine when I set the menu item to anything else ~

update:

On another installation of joomla! I can add a k2 item to a menu and it will appear fine. When I take the same steps on the other installation of joomla I get the 404 blank page error.

so, could it be that this is happening because this particular installation of joomla is from a backup? I used Akeeba backup then used kickstart to unpack and install this joomla site. could it be a reason why this is happening?

thank you for any consideration.

sincerely,

-D

Yes all setting must be the same on both sites. They are installed on the same public_html area.

I will be happy to give you any information, but I did everything in order to post an item but there is a 404 blank page error.

Also, how can I get email notifications of posts in this forum? I didn't get an email but I just wanted to check for any replies today and I saw your reply.

Thank you,

Hi Dominick,

Can you set the Error Reporting in Joomla to Maximum.

Site -> Global Configuration -> Server -> Error Reporting

And try doing it again, and see the error message.

which version of Joomla and K2 are you using ?

Hello Kannan,

Thank you for your reply.

I am using Joomla! 1.7.3 and the latest version of K2 ~ 2.5.3

Also, very oddly, the K2 items that I put on the menu two days ago are now appearing.

But I made a fresh item this morning and I am getting the 404 error. I put the error reporting to "maximum" as you said and the menu item appears but when I click on it I get the 404 error along with a little box at the bottom that says:

"item not found"

could it be the server is slow. My hosting company is Arvixe ~

thank you for your consideration,

-Dominick

Still getting 404 page when adding item to menu. I just want to make sure I am doing this right.

How to publish an item in K2:
  • I create a user group
  • Create a user
  • create a category
  • Finally, create an item

  • Then go to menu ~ add menu item
  • Click select
  • Click item under the K2 section

make sure the menu item is published and public~ make sure K2 item is published and public
  • Then make a module~
  • New module
  • click menu
  • assign that module to the menu where K2 item is

The menu item appears in the menu ~ but I get a 404 error in place of the K2 item

"item not found"

I asked my hosting company about this and I have gotten no response

Just want to make follow-up:
  • I made a new folder in cPanel

  • I used kickstart to unpack and install a backup of joomla site

  • I installed K2 on new site

  • In K2: made new user group, new user (imported users), made new category, made new item.

  • Added new item to menu

  • menu item appeared but when click on menu item the 404 error appears.

I think it is because of the backup from Akeeba because I followed the same process to publish a new K2 item on my other joomla installations and it works fine.

Thank you,

I don't think it's Akeeba I don't even have that installed and I am having the same problem on 2 sites

Item added from the backend are showing up fine but I can not edit them. The edit link shows up but it will not save edits and the tabs are there , image tab, gallery tab and so on but the contents of the tabs are creating a scroll bar in the modal window and go down. I have other working sites with exact same setup that are not having these issues.

Hello Mary,

You should check the permissions of the User Groups.
This sounds however like a .js conflict from your template. You should open your browser's developer tools (console tab) and see the actual issue.
