Hi all,
I am also having a problem with the categories not showing in the k2 admin panel. I am using the latest version of k2 (dowloaded today) with Joomla 2.5.
Initially I was using Firefox as my browser. I added my first category, but it did not save. I repeated this 3 times, and each time after saving and closing, the category panel showed it was empty. However, when I went to the items panel, created an item and went to see if there were any categories to add it to, the category I had created showed up 3 times (from the items drop down menu).
So logged out and switched browsers to Safari. Initially Safari showed me all 3 categories I'd created in the category admin panel; however, after leaving that panel to do other management within Joomla and returning a few minutes later, the categories were again gone.
I found this forum post and tried selecting English as the language, but that made no difference (and it automatically refreshed to 'select language' each time... never staying on English... but maybe that's because English is the only option).
Anyway, those are all my details. Hopefully k2 can discover what the problem is and it will be an easy fix for all!
Thanks for the help and guidance k2!!!
Alina

The second screen grab shows the item filters applied to try and recover this item. Interestingly, the Language Filter will NOT allow me to set language as UK English or ALL
I'm happy to send you an akeeba back-up of the site if your developers want to investigate

Unrelated undocumented cross dependencies could be any number of causes, browser extensions add-ons etc.

Yesterday was the first time using IE9 to access K2 items.
Will Opera work again?

This is the order I've gone:
1) Mac-Firefox... was unable to see the category at any point
...switched to
2)Mac-Safari... was able to see category and items initially. After managing other areas of the joomla backedn for a bit and coming back to k2 to manage category/items again, I was no longer able to see them.
...next day at work
3) PC-Firefox... logged in and immediately could see catg/items
4)PC-Internet Explorer... same thing, could see all catg/items
...same time, checked MAC laptop side by side the PC comp
5) MAC Firefox & Safari.... still nothing showing
...next day (today)
6)PC-IE... logged in and could still see catg/items. Logged into Mac and could not see them. THEN I moved forward and assigned a menu to K2 Category. Immediately went back to k2 category and was UNABLE to view. Unassaigned the menu from k2 catg back to an article catg blog, but was still unable to see categ/items.
So, is it possible the problem begins once a menu is assigned to k2?
Joom 2.5
k2 2.5.6 (started with 2.5.7, but switched to .6 to see if it would help)
template rockettheme diametric
extensions added: aceshop (joomace product), virtuemart (disabled), allvideos, mailchimp mod2
thanks all!

Cleared history from Firefox browser (MAC), logged in and WAS able to see category. Opened website ("View Site") and clicked on the menu/web page I had assigned the k2 Category to. Went back to backend, refreshed and was unable to see categ/items.
Repeated the above steps with the PC, Firefox and IE, both of them showed me the catg/items after clearing cache and logging back in. However, they also both immediately disappeared after viewing the k2 catg page on the website and then returning to the backend and refreshing, like the previous paragraph states.

I agree it is not a K2 issue but something to do with local PC you're working on. I've started working on affected site in Ubuntu and all works fine and continues working fine.

I'm still working with this problem, thought I'd fixed it by switching to ubuntu to work on site but NO. The one component we have in common is Aceshop. I'm going to make a few tests to determine if Acershop / K2 together is the problem.
I 've asked Joomace if they have tested Aceshop in a K2 website

I can't see any articles or categories in the admin backend using Firefox.
I can see them fine in IE9 and on another computer with an old version of Firefox.
I tried clearing cache but nothing seems to work.
Please help..
