Map a few K2 Groups and Users to selected Joomla Groups and Users was created by mtif
The extra ACL in K2 is great, but for large sites like some of ours I would not like to increase the amount of user Admin except where necessary.
What would be really useful for us is to be able define the K2 groups, with their rights, and assign a few of these groups directly to the standard Joomla groups (like Editors for example). In doing this I would hope that K2 would select its list of users from jos_users (or synchronise some other way) so that we could maintain our users for these particular K2 Groups using the standard Joomla (and CB) tools.
We would then only need to assign users to particular K2 groups in special cases.
I can see other cases where we might want to do the same sort of user synchronization to DocMan groups too, and there are probably components that have Groups too.
NB: I understand that the whole ACL thing is challenging, and we all wait to see what 1.6 will actually include and how it will work .... but for now, the above would be a major advantage to us.

Just to add to my further request.
Its seems odd to create an ACL with Groups and Users and then limit users to being in one group only. This is teh straightjacket of Joomla that we'd like to remove. So we'd like to be able to apply users to Multiple Groups not one.

Many of the existing ACL products out there do not integrate with K2 in terms of setting permissions for additional groups. I would expect K2 to at least be able to list all Groups which have been added to the Joomla Groups (i.e. hacks such as JACL and Jcontrol). Other products such as AEC automatically list all groups listed in Joomla as standard.
I know Joomla 1.6 is coming out soon, and can resolve some of these issues. My problem is I have a 3000+ user site where I can create granular access to menus, articles, components, but not for my K2 articles, K2 categories etc.. If a modification can at least be made to not restrict the group selection to Public, registered, special, this would help significantly. It is worth bearing in mind that not all sites will be able to upgrade to J1.6 if they are using a large number of integrated components, each of which will take time to come out with compatible releases. Products like JACL seem to be going down the pan as the site appears to have been abandoned.

Multi-group support is a must. I run a residential community site and need good ACL for viewing and editing restrictions for normal residents and the Home Owners Association Board of Directors and multiple committees.
I just started playing with K2 and so far I like what I see. I'm in the process of rebuilding my site and may use K2 but I really need better ACL than Joomla 1.5 offers. I know 1.6 is coming and should address some of the long awaited features including ACL but I'm just tired of waiting and need to move forward- K2 may be my solution.
