sorry to ask such a beginners question but is it possible to make a section in k2 or do you just make categories and no more sections or how can I address the section part? Please can some one shed some light?

I am pretty sure you can have categories and child categories. Think of categories as "sections" and child categories as "categories" in the joomla core. When you create a category, and then want to have a child category all you need to do is create the child category as you would any other in K2, but in the parent drop down list, choose the main category (which would be like your "section") instead of "top". Hope that answers your questions.
