K2 backend plugin to add new field?

K2 backend plugin to add new field? was created by James Lahm
Right now I can add a new field using the "Extra Fields" option in K2. This is a nice feature, but unfortunately it always requires the author to have to remember to go to the Extra Fields tab to enter the information. Is there a way to modify K2's processing with a plugin to allow additional content fields to be added to the main Item input form/tab?
