Multi user blog site with joomla and K2, is it possible? was created by mv
After a whole weak trying to solve this I still can't find the solution.
I want to make a blog site with joomla where many users could
post picture blogs (articles) to one blog. This blog would have a couple of
categories.
K2 solves a lot of this problems, but a couple still remain:
1.
I want users to be able to work only with their own images, they
can't have any access to other user's images or posts.
Is this even possible? If not with K2, is this even possible injoomla? How?
As far as I understand, all images are stored in one directory
and all user can use them. :((((
2.
Resizing of the images...OK, so this works if you want to upload one image and use
'image' instead of content part of article submition. But that's
very limiting. Is there a way for a user to write 'a complete story', with pictures
on places he/she wants them, and then that pictures be automatically
scaled (to defined size) and displayed in the article. Then, somebody
reading this article can click on the image and view it full size.
Why is resizing limited only to 'image' part of article submition, or
maybe I'm wrong? This way, if somebody inserts a huge image, the whole site looks messy
and unprofessional.
Thanks!

Hi.. mv
I guess you have to wait for the upcoming K2 v.2.3 (not sure exactly when).

Item 1,
Create a category USER1
Create a User Group USER1 and set permissions for create items and edit own items, only allow them to access the USER1 category.
Assign the the right user to USER1
Item 2.
The Image tab is used to display an Item Image or Intro Image only to be displayed at the start of the item.
You can still embed more images into the item they create.
I use JCE editor on all my sites, allows me to create new image folders, upload images, set image dimensions, titles, pop up full images, add borders, set margins, float left/right etc.
Why is resizing limited to just the Image Tab?
Becuase it is coded to know that if you load an image there, it will then look to see what dimensions have been set to resize it. It does not know about the images used within the content as that is down to the user to ensure they are a)writing the correct content, b)inserting the correct image and the correct size.
I hope that helps.

Hi!
Thanks a lot for the reply.
For the past week I was trying to get this to work with myblog and I almost did it until i figured out that I don't know how to make myblog a default content manager. So every time a user makes a search, an article is displayed as a normal article, and that's just not ok.
Anyway, what you said isn't helping.
I created two users, test and test2, they are both inside registered user group in K2 and Edit any item is set to no for this user group. Other permissions are set to yes - I need users to be able to add new articles and upload pictures from front end.
But still either user can see any picture that has been uploaded! :(
I don't think this can be done with k2? Or either joomla component, so it seems. :((((
Or have I done something wrong?
If you meant that I should put each user in it's own user group, that won't work, I need for new users to be able to register in front end without my interference.
Any ideas?
Thanks again.

This will work, but its not WPMU with permissions wide open. Many people want to control whats going on.

if using JCE as the editor, you can set custom user sub-directories so uploaded files remain fully private.
