You could display any category using the menu manager.
What you will need to do is change the ordering within the specific category that you are trying to display.
Go to the category in question and look at the category parameters in the right menu.
You will set the ordering option, then change to newest first, or whichever suits your needs best.

Simon, I have 3 categories at the moment. Say if I write in blog 2 times now and tutorial later. I want the frontpage to have the tutorial first then the 2 blogs right under it. and if I write an article tomorrow I would like the order to be article, tutorial, blog, blog. Do you see what I am trying to get?

Ok. I think I figured it out. I had the main and subs categories all selected which was causing joomla to display multi items. I deselected the main and kept the subs selected. It is working now.
