How can I know if upgrading was really done?

Install didn't gave any errors nor warning messages

I faced the same issue, the version of K2 is defined in the language file administrator/language/en-GB.com_k2.ini
K2_COPYRIGHTS=K2 v2.4 \| Copyright © 2006-2010 JoomlaWorks

So every time is necessary to upgrade manually the version in your language file.

check your k2.php in components/com_k2
* @version $Id: k2.php 566 2010-09-23 11:50:06Z joomlaworks $
it should say the above or something very similar...this was from svn

so now this confirms the upgrading wasn't really done, right?

Probably William refers to 2.4.1 version, have you upgraded to it?

Upgraded to 2.4.1 and now version shows
