Joomla article import on MAMP server was created by Tim Coldwell
I have approximately 56,500 articles in my Joomla site. When importing to K2 it stops (screen goes white) after 1866 articles which is the precise number in the first Section/Category K2 choses to import. The next category is created but no articles are imported. I'm doing the import on a local MAMP server. Why does it stop importing?

Try increasing max_execution_time in the php.ini file

Hi William, I did increase it to 120 secs. Made no difference. Import stopped again at exactly the same article, i.e. last article in the first Category chosen by K2. Doesn't seem like an execution time issue?

I read the guide to using the earlier version. Sounds like pure torture for me :-) Have you used it?

once or twice, it worked for me, and its just mapping things correctly...there is also a content uploader pro extension that will do it but i think arthurs is the simplest. There is a demo xls to go by. Both are better than phpmyadmin!

I'm suspecting MAMP. I've tried K2 import feature before on live servers and it stopped seemingly because of execution time limitations at random points. Never seem hard stop repeatedly in same place before.
If I can't find out why it stops I may have to do battle with IT Services tool.
I'm assuming that the white screen does indicate it has stopped, i.e. that it isn't still working without keeping browser view alive.

Another observation.
While deleting K2 Items I noticed that if one asks for "display all" and all is a lot, like 1866 items I get the same white screen of death just like the import halt, previously described.

this must be something to do with the server settings.
the only thing i know to do short of fixing the server is to select x number of items that will delete without the white screen.
i do think that the svn may improve will improve the speed, but i think there is an underlying problem.
what hosting do you have? vps dedicated, etc etc?

I'm running (testing) on local MAMP server on iMac
BTW. display (even 1866 articles) works OK in Joomla. But not in my K2.

The smallest .gpa file I have is 237MB which is on a VPS somewhere in USA. After downloading it and kickstarting it on iMac (MAMP) and before installing K2 it is now 475MB as .gpa file ??
I have Xampp too but run into kickstart problem (
Could not open /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/gpm/.DS_Store for writing.) Can't run Akeeba Extract Wiz as alt to kickstart as am on MacOS 10.5 :-(
Not my day.
