K2 on MAMP goes crazy

my name is Stefano. I am the administrator of lab.edu.sg
We are restyling the template and I thought of doing it on MAMP to avoid to make a mess.
I have exported the database and the files, but some files got corrupted, hence I had to make a fresh installation with old database. Everything "looks" ok. The front page is perfect.
But in backend, when I try to edit a K2 item, it goes to a page 500 (see the attachment).
I have already attempted to uninstall/reinstall, but nothing changed.
How can I check if there is something missing?
Best
Stefano

thank you very much for your reply.
@William, does Akeeba allow export from remote server and import to local server MAMP.
I read a few horror stories about Akeeba and I am not really confident about it:
www.akeebabackup.com/support/forum/support-for-akeeba-backup-core/akeeba-32-backup-failing-on-mamp-local-server/limit/50/offset/0.html
@Kannan thank you for linking the 2 posts.
I went through the answers and I have noticed that both suggest to add the script in Linux. I am running on MAMP and wonder how can I implement that.
However, the last solution in the first thread, seems more doable.
In fact, the old site (still online) had the free beta of SH404SEF installed, but the new one (on MAMP) does not.
I have removed SH404SEF from the components just by deleting the row in the jos_components table, but now with hindsight I think it was silly, because it might have installed much more than that... Right?
Should I purchase the new SH404SEF and install it on MAMP?
The only reason why I have SH404SEf is because of 404 pages customization.
Do I still need it? Does Joomla allow to customize page 404 without third party components?

I've never had any issues with Akeeba, in fact every site using Joomla should install it. The buying of a SH404SEF subscription package is entirely up to you but if you want to have a 404 page customization, you can do that in Joomla without any 3rd party components. Visit the Joomla Docs here.
Just check your php info if mbstring extension is enabled.
My Suggestions.
Install Akeeba backup on your life site and do a backup. Here's a step by step video guide
Step 1 - Installing Akeeba Backup
Step 2 - Taking your 1st Backup
Step 3 - Download Backup Archives
Step 4 - Restore using KickStart.php

I really have no idea what the mbstring does, so forgive me if I write something silly.
The attachment is what I screenshot form the PhpInfo.
Does it seems all right to you?
I will try with Akeeba. I actually have it already installed, but uninstalled because of the horror stories I read.
Anyway the website I've got it's 4Gb and may take forever to download.
That is why I suspect it corrupted the first download.
Best
Stefano

To add on top of it, I have realized that any menu item I click that is supposed to bring to either a K2 category or a K2 item, leads to a 404. (see the first attachment)
I was very very careful with the tables. I think I have done that part properly. (see the second attachment)

K2 links works like this - index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=8:dfadfadg&Itemid=3
I'm pretty much sure this is some SEF issues.
I've never tried MAMP but i use WAMP, is your current site installed in the root folder ? Is it possible that you create a sub-folder and do a fresh joomla install with K2 and try there ? like labedu15:8888/testinstall/index.php

Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://labedu15:8888/labedu15/administrator/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&cid=502. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

And .. to your other question about Akeeba Backup it works great you just have to get used to kickstart but it's all worth learning/reading the manual. You won't be sorry!

thank you for the replies.
I have finally given a shot with Akeeba.
Migration was perfect! No problem at all.
I have managed twice to get it up on MAMP PRO.
However, as soon as I upload and set the new template everything disappear. White page.
I am not sure what happen, but it looks to me a step back.
The other attempts I have done manually without Akeeba were actually successful. The only problem was the behavoir o K2 as described originally in the post.
Now I have 2 options I guess:
1 - Find a solution to the problem with the backed up site with Akeeba (which I assume would imply me opening a thread either on Akeeba or on MAMP forums)
2 - Get the K2 issue solved on the working version I have ported manually without Akeeba
Any suggestion?
By the way, I am not using MAMP, but MAMP PRO.
MAMP PRO allows to set multiple up servers and place the root folder anyway on the computer.
I do not know if it was a good idea, but I put it in my DropBox folder, so that it can synchronize with my computer in office...
But now I have a big doubt. A friend told me that MAMP goes banana when some apps such as Skype are open.
Do you think the whole reason of the strange behavoir is because of the root folder is currently in a DropBox sub-folder?
