In my search to extend K2 with a image cropping feature I found this: styleware.eu/forum/Free-extensions/1269-K2-Patch-to-allow-crop-of-images

A patch has been made and was offered to fotis, but it was rejected with no given reason. Every professional content management has an image cropping feature but K2 not, apparently because of issues the developers for whatever reason are unwilling to disclose.

I am not requesting an implementation, but just an explanation. Thanks.

I have ported the patch for K2 2.6.2 for those who are interested, but I still would like to have an answer to my question.

2.6.3 will be here soon according to twitter.
Have you successfully installed the files, and then reinstalled 2.6.2 over the top to get back to original code?
I cannot speak to your other questions, but would like to talk on skype if you email me your skype name

Actually all you have to do to remove this patch is to replace the following files with original ones from the K2 package:

/administrator/components/com_k2/config.xml
/administrator/components/com_k2/models/item.php
/administrator/components/com_k2/models/category.xml

And then go to the extension manager, find "K2 Image Crop Image Hack" and uninstall it.

Granted I'm not really sure what the manifext.xml is good for, but it was included in the original package, so I ported all changes from it to the newest manifext.xml and put it in the package. You can delete it if you want to remove the patch.

When K2 2.6.3 is released, nothing really changes. You just need to reinstall the patch. I have included all recent, not broken SVN changes in my patch, but something is broken in this rev: code.google.com/p/getk2/source/detail?r=1821

You can't edit K2 categories anymore if you install those files from the SVN, because if you attempt to save, you get an error pointing at the k2category.php file. Perhaps fotis can fix this before release.

Oh and I would stay away from jquery 1.9 because you can't edit your articles in the frontend with it anymore.

But I am not going to maintain this patch becauseI don't have time to update it every time one of its files get updated in the SVN. This patch is for K2 2.6.2 and I will update it when K2 2.6.3 is released without the bugs I mentioned above. That will be the last patch from me. If people want this feature without updating it every time theirselves, they better convince fotis or lefteris to add this feature in the core.

I will email you my Skype tomorrow.
