Hi,

I created a menu entry for a category that has sub-categories. When the user clicks on it, I want to achieve an effect as following:

CATEGORY A
- item a1
- item a2
- item a3

CATEGORY B
- item b1
- item b2
- item b3

and so on. Basically, every category has a header and a list of items.

Is there a way to do this? If not, is there a plugin that does that? Can this be achieved with a custum template?

The only thing I can get so far is a list of subcategory-titles first, and a list of all of their items right after that, which seems very strange.

This is not the way k2's default layout works, its lists the subcategories first, then the items in the subcategory you select.
To accomplish this use mod_k2_content, and put seperate modules pointing to different categories in different grid positions.
You may also consider using k2_tools to put a list of categoires to pick from in a sidebar and see each categories items when clicked on a link in the sidebar
