I cant get the side items to open on the same page. They open in the home page.

Compare original site: wildwebafrica.com > weblog

with new site; wildwebafrica.com/new/ > weblog

It is a menu issue, double check your menu settings.
There are unassigned categories so their items render through the homepage.

I think this screenshot is from your older site,

You should create a hidden menu ( eg. a menu that is not vidible anywhere on your site ) and publish your K2 categories there.

That way you will have complete control over your modules.
