Read More 404 error was created by Freddie Campbell
I have K2 up and running but I can't get the read more to work properly. I have one article that it works on but all others I get a 404 error when I click Read More Button. I can even copy the working article and still get the same results. I've read through the forum for hours and no solutions found. Can anyone help. My URl is www.capfellowship.org. Thanks

Hello Fred,

Try disabling the "item" menu item.

After hours of trying to find the problem it was as simple as that. I disabled the item menu item and now it works. Thank you very much.

You 're welcome Fred,

Sometimes using reserved words (like item, media, itemlist, images) in menu titles can lead to issues.

Regards.

Thanks I will avoid these type of menu items in the future. I am new to K2 and just learning. Must say so far it is a great product and I am enjoying it a lot. Have run into a few glitches, but just like this one they have been all self induced. It will do wonders for my church website. I plan to use it as an information media and for bible studies and much more. Thanks for the quick support this just further enhances my view of K2 as a great product. You can mark this item as complete with a successful resolution. Thanks again.

Hi -

I'm having the same issue, but don't quite understand what you mean by "Try disabling the "item" menu item." Was that specific to Fred's site, or am I just missing something?

Thanks for any help,
Neal

Krikor -

<<I mean disable or trash that particular menu item>>

But where is that menu item? I'm not finding it.

And if the Item menu is specific to Fred's site, why might I be having the same problem?

For example, if you go here:
www.reunionplanner.com/find-a-location/find-a-location/usa/south-carolina?Itemid=158

then click on Read More or the Item title, a 404 will occur. It only happens on certain Items.

Thanks,
Neal

Hello Neal,

You are facing different issues. The solution posted for Fred was for reserved words in menu items.

A 3rd party extension appears to add ?Itemid=158 in your URLS which causes the 404 error.
Possibly it is a misconfiguration of an SEO/SEF extension.

Yes, this is added by Artio JoomSEF. But it's also added on all other pages as well, and they are not getting a 404 error.

If anyone has other ideas, please let me know.

Thanks,
Neal

If Artio JoomSEF does not support K2 then your links will continue to break. I think you need to ask the extension's developers about your issue.

Artio sells a JoomSEF K2 Extension for Joomla 2.5 and older at 10 Euro.

I have had a great experience with JoomSEF & Joomla 1.6 up to Joomla 2.5. It seems my best option is investing 10 Euro in this to get good K2 URLs.

Does anyone use another SEO extension for K2 that is 1: Free or 2: available for Joomla 2.5 & 3.x?

PS: Fred, I like your website, but you would probably benefit from JoomSEF with that K2 Extension. It should eliminate the Joomla article ID number that preceeds every URL that's being generated, giving you simpler URLs anyone can easily remember or type.
