Thanks Krikor,

Do you know of any FREE K2 extensions that would let me do this?

(I'm looking for something with Komento-type functionality... but without paying the cost :)

Sure, you can use Disqus - disqus.com/ .

They offer documentation if you want to manually implement it and there are several K2 extensions for disqus as well.
