Joomla categories imported all wrong was created by Martin Larsen
Hi,

We use K2 on a new site where we already have our Joomla content.

We imported the Joomla content from K2, and while articles seems to be imported ok, the categories are all messed up. K2 did get the categories, but the parent-child relationship is apparently random. So a given category belongs to a wrong parent category etc.

Is this a known "feature" and what can we do about it?

Thanks.

I haven't heard of something like that happening before.
From which Joomla! and K2 versions did you do the import?

Since you are using a Joomla! 3.2.x version I would advise you to install the K2 2.6.8 SVN version. You can find it here: getk2.org/assets/get/

I don't know the Rockwall Quickstart Package is it of some template provider?

Yes, Rockwall is a template from Gavick:
www.gavick.com/joomla-templates/rockwall,125.html

The QuickStart package comes preinstalled with K2 and several other components and modules.

Are they are issues with K2 and Joomla 3.2 since you advice me to use the SVN version?

We have solved many incompatibility issues to this version and J!3.2.x.
It is recommended, since you are using the 3.2 joomla package to install this version.

Don't forget to get a full site backup first before updating K2.

Thanks. The new version indeed works better. Categories are imported correctly now.

However, I still have a strange problem (it was also in the release version):

Articles have a completely wrong url compared to the categories they belong to.

If you go to new.viviro.com (username/password = demo/demo) and click eg. on the middle image with pyramids and camels, you will se the url is

index.php/k2/k2-categories/featured-band-events/item/256-find-billige-flybilletter-til-cairo

But this article does not belong to the category "Featured Band Events" (which is a demo category from the template), it belongs to Egypt > Cairo.

Why do the articles show up like if they were in a wrong category? I have spent hours, and I am clueless.

I appreciate you time and help very much!

Try to clean both your site's and browser cache, if you are using sh404sef try to rebuilt the urls.
If your issue still persists try to rebuilt the menu.
Make sure that in the backend your items and categories are as they suppose to be.

Rebuilding the menus seemed like a good idea and I actually thought it would cure the problem, but alas, it didn't. I had already tried clearing the caches but that didn't help either. I have also cleared the cache after rebuilding the menus.

The categories are like they are supposed to be. The given articles with the pyramids is in the Cairo category which in turn is in the Egypt category. So everything seems fine.

If it is not too much to ask for, I could make you a backend login to have a look. It might be a problem with K2 or I might simply be doing something wrong, but I guess you could find out in a couple of minutes!

Yes you can do that. You could start by providing me with a link to your page first to check on the links.

I actually provided a link in my first post today, but I see that it is not clickable. Hope this will be better:

my site

Note that it is password protected to keep Google from indexing it, the login is demo / demo.

If you click on the middle image with pyramids and camels, you will see that it the url shows the wrong category.

Where can I send you an admin login? It does not seem to be possible to send PM's using this forum.

The image with the camel comes from a module mod_news_pro_gk5. You need to make sure that this module has the correct settings.

[This is a test - I have problems writing in the forum]

Hmmm, it worked now. Here is the post:

I honestly think it has the correct settings. I have looked at all settings, and the only relevant one I can find is the datasource which correctly points to K2 categories.

Also, if you look at this category page below, you will see a lot of articles that incorrectly are listed to be part of "Featured Band Events". There are actually no articles belonging to that category.

There is definitely something going on with your menus. If you check the above url you will see it wrong since the page you are trying to see is under this path Blog/Categories/Featured Band Events.

The url should include these menu paths.

Do you use sh404sef or Advanced SEF options from K2?

I don't use sh404sef. I can't find anywhere to check for Advanced SEF in K2, but it is not something I have actively enabled. Since I use the Quick Start package from Gavick, it could be enabled by default though.

Where do I look for it?

The K2 Advances SEF options are located in the K2 Global Parameters under the Advanced Tab.

Check the this specific menu item fetches only items from this category and not others.

Sorry, but I don't understand what you mean.

Would it be easier and quicker if I have you a backend login?

Just open this menu item "Featured Band Events" and make sure it has only that category set in the menu settings.
