By default images for k2 items are stored in /media/k2/items/cache and are named with their md5 value. Ive read that its better for seo to have relevant image names. How can i have images keep the name they were uploaded with and how can i change their storage location.

Hi. I suggest you don't modify this. Images are being indexing by the alt attribute. You will not have any issues. Just ensure to edit the robots.txt file of Joomla! which by default does not allow indexing in the media directory.
