Hi Fotis,
Quick question regarding the development of the Google Structured Data options you now have in place. We have been looking into implementing schemas on some of our sites and have seen tools that can be used which allows for a more detailed schema implementation. So for example, put in our own custom 'type' or add in our own custom description on an article by article basis. So have text boxes for them, a bit like what there is for the meta description and keywords.
As an aside to that, the current schema description is pulling out the full article rather than a shortened description. Is that correct behaviour?

There is no limit to the text that goes into description. So the more, the better, as you can use these details to fully power Google Publisher Editions for example as part of the Google News mobile app.
Aside that, all this data is sent to the item object so you can change it on-demand right inside your item override if you want or in a plugin.
If you want to create extra fields and then render them as structured data, you can grab the JSON output of K2's SD and augment it or fully replace it right within the item.php override. Just do a var_dump on the item object to get these properties.

The problem I have is that we can't update the description manually. By default, the description field is showing the full article. I tried adding text to the meta description field, but the schema description still displayed the full article. So do we have to update the template override to be able to add in a custom description?

From what I know (= official Google advice to some of our large customers with news/media sites doing 1m+ uniques per month), the description field in the GSD must be the article body. There is no limit to it so there is no point in customizing it. If you do need to customize it, you can just override it on a template override level or (better) on a plugin level.
