You can't download the images when they are open on the front end, only the thumbnails. In the image you can see what options come up when you right click.

That is because the image in the popup is placed under the next and previous buttons. Try to click on the center of the image to get a Save image option on right click.

Another option is to get SIG Pro which has an option to Download the image in the popup.
