I notice that when you change an image of the same name - delete the media from Joomla then upload a different image of the same name the Gallery retains the original image but on clicking on it the new image displays. I have tried Fnc+F5, Refresh and exmpty cache but none work so I guess the gallery must create thumbnails somewhere that are not updating if a new image replaces old of the same name? Is the only solution to constantly have to rename the images to new names when updating them?

Just clean Joomla! cache and the thumbnails will get updated.
