New Image Upload idea

Images would be uploaded either by ajax upload, zip gallery, or importing a flickr gallery. one the images have have been uploaded, a listing of the images is shown that allows you to name, caption, and credit. From there you can organize and select which of the images is the featured image.
Images also have an embed code or number. Where ever the user wants to place the image in the blog, they simple put the code in to apply the image. If the user wants to put the entire gallery, they just add the gallery code.
Please share your thoughts on this...
Thanks!

did you have any luck finding a better gallery for K2?
I already bought SIG Pro and unfortunately the uploader is useless for my site.
Packing a zip is not usable for most of my users.
Additionally when i think of a gallery, the users need to be able to:
- bulk upload (ajax)
- edit image captions directly after uploading
- image ordeing to the users need after uploading
An unordered gallery is like viewing a movie in unordered snippets...
Any help or hints are very welcome!
Btw. Of course i am willing to pay, if someone is able to code it as a custom job.
Thanks.

One of the things missing from k2 in particular is the ability to caption Gallery images without having to retreive the individual txt file by FTP, laboriously fill in the details and then FTP it back to the server.
If the goal of k2 is to be the principal presentation layer, adding style and functionality to Joomla in consort with other JoomlaWorks plugins, then this capability is a real must have in future releases.

Unfortunately no!
I posted this issue in Joomlaworks-Forum: No reply within two weeks. Bad support.
Finally a Joomlaworks-Team-Member answered: "There are plans in K2 for better gallery flexibility already". That was on July the 15th... and no improvements to this problem were done or announced, whether to K2 nor to SIG Pro.
You can find some other posts that show, people are not satisfied with the image-upload engine, but Joomlaworks doesn´t seem to be interested in improving the upload -feature.
My recent plan is to let it code by external developer.

Depends on how much we have to pay.
I think it would be much more easy to make an estimation about the cost. Then we can deside together. This wa there is a better change for a new development.

I'm interested in the ideas put forward by Lou and supported by others.
Expanding it further, an option for multiple galleries on same item page could be useful too.
Not so important for me - an option to allow a gallery to be added to a category page.
@ Oliver, could you give an estimate for development?
Important for me that any plugin development allows for easy upgrade of K2 core in future (no core hacks)

All my devs are without core hacks...
Just have to know which features you all want to implement to make an estimate.

I want to use the image upload for frontend users (as simple as possible)
I prefer to have an all-in-one lay-out without tabs.
User has to fill in the following:
1) Multiple picture upload without putting it in a zip file. If possible with exaple.
2) storie
3) extra fields
It has to be as simple as possible, because most of our front-end users are noobs with pc's.
If you need an further information to make an estimation, just let me know.

It would be great if it's possible to make some adjustments to the pictures after uploading. And ofcourse the standard feature; automatic resizing images.

Please have a look at Simgallery, which is the best gallery (only!) in terms of frontend-user-friendlyness.
Features:
- flash-uploader for multiple simultaneous uploads
- drag-and-drop image sorting after upload (facebook-sytle). Most picture galleries only make sense when a user can (re)arrange the images.
- image captions/naming after upload

I was hoping to get the new site live within 2 weeks.
If possible, I prefer to go live with the new upload method.

Sorry for the delay,
I think i can do something for you but not now...some other projects around K2 to start, continue or finish.
Some availabilities at the end of the month to make devs on new image upload system.
