I've searched the forum for this and coudn't find quite what I wanted.
I'm wondering if anyone has succesfully integrated a method of importing RSS content (feeds) directly into items ? This would be a great feature for anyone using K2 for a news portal ?
Any suggestions ?
Thanks,
Danny

There is a couple of components that import RSS into Joomla articles but as you mention, one then needs to import Joomla articles into Items afterwards. I haven't tried the article import into items yet, is it reliable ?
I think I might go ahead with something like this for now but lets just say it would be really cool to have component for just that. One that would isolate images properly add them to the K2 image tab :-)
Thanks,
Danny

Now I just need to find a good RSS to CSV converter ...
This should work in theory although I would then need to Cron the RSS converter and then Cron the import tool !
Let's see where all this goes from here :-)

I'd actually pay to have this developped in K2 directly,
a) anyone whant the job ?
b) is there a way to mandate the job to the K2 team ?
c) anyone want to contribute and share the add on with me ?

I use RSS Aggregator Platinum to accomplish this.
It's a paid for Joomla component, only the Platinum version gives k2 functionally, it provides perfect k2 import support and a huge lot of other functionality as well.
I know we all like something for nothing but it seems to me that higher end Joomla functionality comes at a price.
All I can say is that you won't be sorry biting the bullet and shelling out some beans.
Feedgator (also in Joomla Extensions and free) claims this capability, but the results are pretty poor given it's still a work in progress.
Hope that helps you.
Be Well,
CHRIS

This is an interesting twist !!! THANKS
I definitively don't mind paying for such a component.
Do you know if it imports (and renders) the images into the K2 images tab ?
Thanks,
Danny

It seems to be developped by 3dwebdesign.org but I can't find the actual platinum version in there. They seem to have started a Ning network too but that seems to be a dead end.
Chris, could you tell us a little more about this ?
1- the URL of the product ?
2- Do you happen to know if it renders the images for k2 ?
3- Do you get proper support for this ?
Thanks so much for your help!
Danny

He claims the images aren't rended yet but will be in a future release.

Give Feed Gator a try. It has a plugin for importing RSS Feeds directly into K2 Categories and creates articles for each feed. Many features are included in the new Feed Gator. I am currently building a site that pulls news feeds from Thailand into K2 and it works perfectly.
Cheers
Dave

I'm looking for an extension/component that will do that in order to avoid having to manipulate the data at all.

Sorry about the response time. Holiday season is always busy for us.
So if I understand, your component now imports RSS feeds into K2 completely (including processing the image to the K2 image tab) ?
Thanks,
Danny
