OG meta tags will have a switch in the upcoming v2.8.5 and in v3.0.0 will be removed and become a plugin.

K2 Power Tip: Remove Open Graph Meta - K2 Hack

Category: English K2 Community

Hello everybody!

With version 2.8.0 I commented the whole Set Facebook meta data block in the following files in order to disable K2 OG tags:

/components/com_k2/views/item/view.html.php
/components/com_k2/views/itemlist/view.html.php
/components/com_k2/views/latest/view.html.php

It seems to work.

You may not need all the K2 Item Edit page tabs for your site. Or perhaps you want to make the UX easier for a client.

All you need to do is add a little CSS...

Find this File:
/media/k2/assets/css/k2.css

Add this Code:

note: below is a list of EVERY tab - before adding the code, REMOVE the tabs you want to displayed

#tabExtraFields,
#tabContent,
#tabImage,
#tabImageGallery,
#tabVideo,
#tabAttachments
{display: none !important;}

For me, I do not use the Image Gallery, Video and Attachments tabs:

#tabImageGallery,
#tabVideo,
#tabAttachments
{display: none !important;}

I hope you found this tip useful - Later K2'ers :)

Thanks Joe - I've replaced UALayout with DSC throughout the site and it's worked perfectly to a) replace UALayout and b) resolve the issue I was experiencing.

K2 Power Tip: User Agent Plugin for Website Optimization

Hi @KelseyBrookes,

Try using Device Specific Content (DSC) by Viktor Vogel. It can be used within your content (articles & modules), your template, and third-party extensions (via API).

I hope this helps,

K2 Power Tip: User Agent Plugin for Website Optimization

So... interesting little side-effect of using UALayout.

Krikor might recall I added an issue to Github where using SIGPro was causing the item's introtext to disappear, and the gallery appear in its place.

We've tracked this down to the use of the UALayout plugin.

While UALayout is not directly called on the area affected, it is loaded on the page - and when enabled causes the above issue if SIGPro is installed.

We're having that issue on our the real estate site I was showcasing last week.

I'm adding an issue to UA Layout's github (and resolving the one on K2), but I thought it worth noting here also.

WOW - I never realized this...

You can also decide which elements your sub-templates have in common, whether this is the category (category.php), tag (tag.php), user (user.php) or item page (item.php) with the default and include only the different file(s) in your sub-template.

K2 Power Tip: Use PHP Includes to Render Override Files

Category: English K2 Community

Using K2 overrides can do wonders for website creation, but prove challenging when have many overrides (each with many elements).

To reduce the number of override files you can use PHP includes.

For example, I have a Quotes section for which I display the list page in a Pinterst-like manner. It's the only section of my website that is like that. But the item page is the same as every other section. So in this case, I use a PHP include to render the item.php file housed in my primary override.

Best of all, you can use this method for each and every override file (category.php, category_item.php, tag.php, etc.)

Here's the code, simply change the areas denoted in red:

<?php include($_SERVER.'/templates/TEMPLATE-NAME/html/com_k2/OVERRIDE-FOLDER/item.php'); ?>

Happy K2 Coding :)
Displaying 1 - 20 out of 100 results.
