items not loading (500 error)

Category: English K2 Community

Was having problems w/ image uploads stalling, so I upgraded K2 to 2.5.7 (running on Joomla 1.5.22). Since I've done that, the same problem persists but also now my items don't load from the front end. See., e.g., twincityderbygirls.com/site/about/teams-staff/itemlist/category/5-twin-city-travelers. I can see them all on the back end, all the articles are there, but they won't load on the front end. I know some items have no images; they're the ones I was having trouble with earlier.

I tried with one item, its category and subcategory, the suggestion that was made in another thread -- to check the k2 tables in the database for the language field. That field was blank in both category and item tables, but when I changed it to * in all three (for the one item), that item is still not displaying.

Hope that makes sense. I'm pretty new to K2.

Hi. The old icons have been removed. If you stiil want them you can add the code in your template overrides.

k2 is not displying items on the front end???

Category: English K2 Community

Hi. Go to your database and look for the "language" field in the K2 tables. It should not be empty. It should have a value of a language or the "*" value. In case it is empty you need to add it manually. This would mean that the upgrade script you used didn't migrate the language field.

SIGPRO Captions in Thumbs but getting no captions in popup

Category: Simple Image Gallery PRO

SIGPRO Version 2.5.7 default is set to "Read contents of caption files" which, presumably, is why they appear perfectly against the thumbnails. I can't see any setting other than that one in SIGPRO.

K2 (just upgraded to version 2.5.7) is installed but there are no categories or items set up in it yet.
I see no difference from upgrade but could K2 be interfering in some way with SIGPRO?

Latest: If you go to www.eapu.eu/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&layout=item&id=1&Itemid=529
You will see that I have created a K2 page with the Medals gallery in it.
Click on any of the three images to see the pop-up.
The result is identical to the Joomla page - no captions.

Analysis:
1. Thumbnails work exactly as expected/wanted
2. Captions not displaying problem exists only in pop-up.
3. Captions in pop-up don't display in any browser - IE, FF, Chrome or Safari.
4. Navigation doesn't display in IE but displays in FF, Chrome and Safari.

I now suspect the problem may be a javascript clash.
What do you think?

Missing K2 New User button

Category: English K2 Community

Hi -- When I go to the Users area in K2, I don't have a "New" button. Is that normal? How do I create a new K2 user? I could have sworn that there was a "New" button at one point. I upgraded not too long ago to K2 2.4.1. Site is J! 1.5.26.

I've already created a Joomla User profile for the person, and now I need to turn them into a K2 User. Can't use the Import Joomla Users button again.

Please help.

Thanks,
Railer

Error 500 when saving K2 Items and Categories

Category: English K2 Community

Okay, I am going to reply to my own topic here. I actually received some help from Simon (moderator) which pointed me in the right direction to figuring this out.

My website is using Joomla 2.5.6 but this is NOT a clean install. My site originally started out as Joomla 1.7 and has been upgraded to 2.5.6. Somewhere along the way during the upgrades the Smart Search function has been deleted and does not exist on my site.

K2 comes with 'Smart Search - K2' which is enabled automatically. I'm guessing that this plugin utilises the Joomla's own Smart Search in some way to index the Items and Categories. Now because Joomla's Smart Search had been deleted during one of my upgrades to 2.5.6, saving Item's and Categories could not be done without disabling 'Smart Search - K2'. This is because the table does not exist on the database for the finder to write to.

So what's the answer?
Basically I had to do a clean install of Joomla 2.5.6 to get the Smart Search component back. I know this is not good news if you have lots of pages etc but it's the only way (that I know of). I have tried the option of going to Extensions / Extension Manager / Discover, to locate the missing component but this does not work either.

Once you have performed your new Joomla installation you need to do the following to ensure 'Smart Search - K2' will work properly.
  • Go to: Extensions / Extension Manager
  • Sort by Smart Search or look for 'finder' and ensure they are all enabled
  • Now hover over the Components link and click Smart Search
  • Click 'Index' to index all of the content on your website. This can take a little time if you have a few pages.

And that's it. In short, if you're missing Joomla's Smart Search component because you upgraded from an earlier version of Joomla it's tough luck. I hope this helps someone else as I've spent quite a bit of time arriving at this answer.

Cheers,
Neil

Alternative to using K2? Extra Fields a failure.

Category: English K2 Community

I have used Extra Fields for many applications, e.g. a business directory (no need for SOBI), a plant encyclopedia, wine catalog with tasting notes, and they work great. I am not crazy about the data model, but keeping the one-to-many relation (all EF data in one row) does make sense.

For an alternative, expanded version of EF, you can look at Sherpa:
www.jiliko.net/extensions/k2-sherpa.html

Unfortunately, it's still for 1.5 only - we're waiting for the upgrade..

Embedding data in Joomla articles would seem to be a step backwards. With some creativity, you could instead use a tool like Fabrik to quickly create/populate your own data tables and then do stuff with that data wherever you wish, including inside K2.

Take a lake a look also at the NoNumber suite - sourcerer is a nifty tool that lets you run native data routines inside content, incl. K2.

Otherwise - we look forward to seeing your improvements!
Cheers,
Alan

Can't directly translate K2 items with Joomfish!

Category: English K2 Community

I have a problem with Direct Translation Module which doesn't translate K2 items, - it's inactive. It just shows Site default language: English.

However, it works for Joomla articles!

The module is published and in status position with following:
com_k2#k2_items#cid#task#!edit

That was working before upgrade from Joomfish 2.17 and K2 v2.4.1

I have a Joomla 1.5.26, K2 2.5.7, and Joomfish 2.2.3

Do I have to put some new code in?

Hi. Just tested with no issues. Since you upgraded you should also apply layout changes. We provide them at getk2.org/documentation/tutorials/item/77-k2-template-override-package-comparison.

Cannot attach ZIP,PDF. Can attach JPG,MP3,PNG

Category: English K2 Community

Using Joomla 1.5.22
K2 2.2

Last week upgraded out server tot PHP 5.3. Now K2 items won't allow me to attach ZIP, PDF and other files. JPG, MP3's and PNG's are working just fine.

When i use the 'add attachment field' option and try to attach a ZIP-file everything seems ok. Joomla tells me 'Changes to Item saved'. The new attachment-row is displayed but without filename. Clicking on 'download' joomla tells me 'File does not exist'. Wich is correct because the file ins't uploaded.
As stated before, other file types are working...

Any help?

ps. Installed OSE File Manager to check if I can upload ZIP-files at all via browser. OSE does upload my ZIPs.

I'm experiencing something similar here and it is date related. This is why the above poster is saying that things "slowly appear"

I've got over 40 k2 sites going so a bit of experience with it, but still not an expert.

This one site is a J1.5-->2.5.4 upgrade and k2 upgrade. The process was not without some issues.

On this one site if I save a new article it won't be visible for a day or two. I have to reset the day for a day prior for it to start showing. I'm not sure why I'm having date issues though. The server date is set to match correctly.

Anyone else have date issues with new articles?

k2 Tool - List of categories - active category

Category: English K2 Community

Hi, thank you for your help.
I disabled the module cache (in truth, I set its duration to 0, hope it's the same). Anyway the issue still exists.
At the moment it's difficult for me to upgrade k2 because I made many changes in layout.
If you have some other hipotesis it would be great! :)

Thank you

Hi. First of all K2 2.5.3 is outdated you should upgrade to latest stable ( 2.5.7 currently). Be aware for layout changes if you upgrade. Now, regarding your issue, you can try disabling the module cache. If the module is cached all pages will get the same cahced copy.

Bands for Hire

Category: English K2 Community

Hello Everyone,

In 2010 we developed the new Bands for Hire website using K2 and it's doing a fantastic job. We also made a few modifications to the item page so that we could use the comments feature as our enquiry form and it works a treat.

K2 makes adding new bands and acts very easy for everyone in the office and I'd highly recommend it to anyone thinking of using it for this type of application.

We're considering an upgrade to 2.5 but I think it's going to be quite a big job with the number of changes we've made to the mods installed. Has anyone else made the transition? Any suggestions, please do let us know.
