Here's a quick method.

1. View source and identify the class of the element you want to adjust (I'm guessing div.itemBody, in this case)
2. Go to the relevant CSS file (components/com_K2/css/k2.css, in this case)
3. Either adjust it there, or create a custom.css file in your template/css folder and ensure that your template loads this css file last, to overwrite previous values (this is a good idea, because it saves your changes from being blown away every time you upgrade a component)

I'm a noob and I have worked really hard on my sites look and feel by editing the K2 CSS and had someone add K2 templates for a few categories. I want to upgrade K2 to the newest version but need all my work to transfer over too. What can I do??

Can I back up the current K2 and reinstall it if upgrading fails??

I can't remember if the option is available in K2 version 2.4.1 but if you upgrade to the latest version K2 2.5.7, you will have the option to show or hide related items by category.

I apologize if this is the incorrect forum, but I can't find support anywhere for this extension and acesearch claims that it is an issue with k2.

I've recently upgraded my site to joomla 2.5 on a test server. After the upgrade I noticed some strange search results. For some reason several products are not showing up when I search for their title, yet other products with almost identical names show the correct result. By indexing the menus, I've been able to get the missing products to show up but it's a sloppy solution since there are duplicates and several pages.

The handler for the k2 extension is selected as "search plugin". If I select 'acesearch' plugin for the k2 extension, the titles show up correctly but I'm unable to search the k2 extra fields which has all our companies part numbers. Having the part numbers show up is absolutely critical for us.

I have the most recents versions of acesearch pro, k2, the k2 extension, and joomla 2.5.4.

Do you have any idea whats going on here? Please help

Hi there, I run a joomla 1.5.23 website and I recently upgraded my k2 extension from version 2.4.1 to 2.5.6. After upgrading, the main page for k2 displays fine, but whenever you click on any item (to go to details view), the page loads as blank. This does not happen for items created after the upgrade. I tried repair the mysql table, but that did not help. I also tried turning on error reporting, but nothing came up. Does anyone have any ideas about what may be causing this issue and how to fix it? Will I have to recreate every item?

What version of Joomla are you running?

I upgraded to JCE 2.1.0 from 1.5x on my joomla 1.5 installation. We use K2 (v 2.4) for some of our content pages.

After the upgrade, the JCE editor no longer appears on some of the K2 content tabs. It does appear on regular joomla article edit screens, however.

I have selected JCE in the Global configuration, and JCE Administration appears in the Component menu. But no JCE on all of the edit tabs in my K2 content editors.

If this is similar to your issue, then maybe this is my solution also...please advise.

If I could find JCE 1.5, I'd probably go back to that one.

I have a custom template running on a new site with over 3000 articles using K2 on Joomla 1.5. I have finally gotten a 2.5 template built and everything installed to my website. Yes I am having trouble moving all my articles and categories over. Jupgrader supposedly migrates K2 data over but nothing shows up after it runs.

Can someone point me in the correct direction to move over all my articles and categories. I've been working on this for the past 3 days and no luck, tried to contact the developer who built my template and package installer and heard nothing. Not sure where I am going wrong. Any help would be great, I would really appreciate it.

I think what he is saying is that you have to find that file and comment out the relevant php. If you aren't familiar, this might be too much.

It can be found in one of two places, depending on whether your login module is the k2 login or the k2 user block. In the first case, the PHP file is where the previous user suggested. You'll need to find that file, crack it open, and comment out the line that looks like this:
If you are using the k2 user block, it works just the same, except you'll find the file here: modules/mod_k2_user/tmpl/userblock.php

Any text editor will work for you. Just edit out the text/code, save the file, and it should be fine.

Note: if you ever plan to update/upgrade K2, you'll need to learn about overrides. Google it. In short, you copy that file and move it under your template so that K2 won't wipe out your nifty little code changes next time you upgrade.

I have the same problem. Everything was working well until I upgraded to k2 2.5.7 and fpss 3.2.0

If you made changes to the core files of Joomla or K2 and upgrade the software you will loose your changes, when you move a site directly you should not loose your changes. Changes should be made by using overrides. Check the two servers and see whats different about them, Also check the k2 and joomla information tabs to see if anything is turned off on the new server

Moved to new host, now K2 pages do not work,

I tried to upgrade to new version of K2, the pages opened, but I lost all my templates and formats. Is there anyway to upgrade K2 without losing formats?

I have a live website, LAMP hosted, under Joomla ver 1.5 using K2 ver 2.1 - I need to upgrade these versions.

As a first step, I am recreating the live website on my development computer. My dev computer is LAMP, and I have copied all the live website files and mysql database to it.

The dev website looks OK for the simple Joomla pages, but the one K2 page (a very simple, article-displaying blog) only displays a "Subscribe to this RSS feed" link. I have set all directory permissions to 777, but this didn't help. Everything within the Joomla/K2 administrator seems to be OK (I can see the page category, items, etc - everything is published and not checked out.)

There is one other clue: the home page displays the beginning of the first article of the blog, and has a "read more" link. If I click on this, I get a 404 error page.

Any suggestions on what my problem is?

I have the same problem. Permissions are okay and the server techs have done the SSH thing. The images are in the Cache file but the thumbnails do not render in either the front or backend. This is a Joomla 2.5 installation running K2 now upgraded to latest version.

If you hack the core of k2 and change it, you will most likely not be happy with your upgrade or your data after the upgrade when the time comes , hence create and override (thats what k2 is good at) and change the way your data is displayed.

this is a little bit off-topic, but it fits the thread title and i dont wanna spam the forum with new threads...

The problem i have is since i upgraded from k2 2.5.4 to 2.5.5 and even on 2.5.6 it still persitst.

If i add an extrafield which is a "link" field it and hit save

it saves automaticly the "http://" in the sql database...

if i now create an k2 item where this extra field is assigned too and i don't enter any value (no link)

it will show on frontpage for the item http:// as clickable and redirects only to http:// because there is no link entered.

i use this function for my blog to add links like: source, via, Developer Homepage and so on...but i don't always use all the fields.

So every time i add or modify a field i have to go into the sql database and delete the "http" manually...

could you make it like before, that k2 is ignoring the "http://" if nothing else is entered or the best thing would be, delete this function at all. that it doesn't enter the http prefix at all in the database...

can you tell me where i can do this?

Hi - we've been using K2 for a few years. Just upgraded to 2.5. Got a basic question about item (article) save options.

The blog overview of what's new in K2 didn't cover the basics of the interface changes (getk2.org/blog/item/185-k2-v25-for-joomla-15-16-and-17-now-available).

What happend to the "apply" button? I'm assuming it was replaced with one of the new "Save & Close Draft" or "Save and New Draft" buttons?

For a new item (page/article), the "save and new draft" button's purpose seems obvious.

But, what about editing an existing page?

This is so basic, it's stupid to have to ask. But, please explain the best-practices workflow for using these buttons when editing an existing page.

When I tried the "save and close draft" I got an error that the page was already published and it would be unpublished. But, the page status showed it was published. Aagh!

Please explain step 1, 2, 3. Or update your video so we understand what you had in mind with the new buttons and what the heck we're supposed to do with them when we open an existing article, make a change, and want to save it (apply). Then, make another edit and make it live (publish). Stupid basic stuff, but your new interface makes no sense.

For those who never deal with the items and just do server stuff, a screen capture of the buttons is attached.

I have a strange problem. I have embedded a fpss module into a K2 item using modules anywhere. This works fine and can be seen here pugliapooches.eu/jupgrade/index.php/rescuing-stray-and-abandoned-animals-in-puglia

I have embedded another fpss module into a K2 category description in the same way. It does not appear correctly as can be seen here pugliapooches.eu/jupgrade/index.php/rescuing-stray-and-abandoned-animals-in-puglia/the-dogs . There are no items in this category but it has a number of sub-categories with items.

Strangely if I add an item to the category which has the fpss module embedded into the description then the slideshow appears correctly both in the category description and in the item at the bottom of the page!

I run a music blog. We post a lot, 3 or more pieces a day. Suddenly, all 2,500 of our posts have disappeared. Our webmaster has fixed it a couple of times but it happens again, almost immediately.

The following message shows on the page:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/bcomet/public_html/administrator/components/com_k2/views/items/tmpl/default.php on line 80

Our webmaster blames K2, saying that it upgraded itself somehow. News to me. The site is two years old and this has never happened before.

Can anyone help me with this. Time is critical.

I do think that K2 can be the number 1 cck component for Joomla with some improvement on some actual features that comes often on the forum, like multiple categories, tags group, custom profile fields by group and rate system manageable like the comment one...

With this 4 features upgrades K2 will rich 90% of the users need in my opinion and would be so good !

That's why having a little feedback from the K2 team would be good to know if they are planning on adding natively this features so often asked.
