K2 Items don't appear

Category: English K2 Community

Hello,

Since i've upgraded the site to joomla 2.5 and uploaded the newest K2 component, somehow K2 is becoming a mistery to me. Perhaps it's lack of sleep due to my little son who doesn't seem to sleep at night, but i've been fussing arround with the following problemf or some hours allready.

The problem: I've put news show pro GK4 on the frontpage displaying the k2 items. So far no problem. As soon as I klick on the image or text link it reroutes to a new page but it does not display the item. No message at all!

For the menu items exactly the same problem. The menuitmes in the mainmenu do not link to the items but also not to categorie lists / blogs.

Please HELP!

K2 Article Publishing Issue was created by Chris

K2 Article Publishing Issue

Category: English K2 Community

I hope to explain this as clearly as possible, if it will result in needing paid services that's fine but I would like to get a heads up first in case this is an issue that has come up before.

I have a website with K2 installed (just upgraded to K2 2.5.5 in hopes that it would resolve my problem, unfortunately it did not) Here is the scenario and the problem

Scenario
The site was installed roughly in September 2011, my friend and I Have been posting articles from September 2011 up until now (March 29, 2012)

We are transferring articles that were originally written as far back as 2006. We have been able to publish articles and have them visible from 2006 up to 2012 (as published dates)

Our Current Category Structure

19 (Level 1) Main Categories
- 27 (Level 2) Sub-Categories
--- 4 (Level 3) Sub-Sub Categories
2 (Level 4) Sub-Sub-Sub Categories

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The Problem

The information provided below is part of our issue, however it's not just specific to the categories listed below, it is an issue elsewhere on the site with other categories/articles.

We have a category with sub-category refer to below

Issues / Telecom

Issues = (Level 1) Main Category
Telecom = (Level 2) Sub-Category

The main articles we used for quick and efficient testing include the words "Yellow Pages"

The two and only two articles that contain the word "Yellow Pages" are both listed in Issues/Telecom.

Item A = The Yellow Pages Are Green
Item B = Board Committee Approves Proposal To Restrict Yellow Pages Distribution

When you view Issues, Item B is visible while Item A is not visible, but when you click on Issues/Telecom (Telecom sub-category link from issues main page) Item B is no longer visible, however Item A becomes visible.

I am at a complete loss of words on this, I have checked every param to make sure everything is ok, everything checks out fine, I was hoping that upgrading from K2 2.5.1 would fix it but unfortunately it didn't. I don't know if this could just be a bad database table or what. I hope someone can shed some light on this, it's kind of important that this problem gets resolved asap.

I appreciate any support and time taken by who ever can spend a moment to come up with some possible reasons why this would be happening.

Category Titles not Showing

We are using the K2 > Categories menu type as well.

We basically had to write some custom code to redo the way sub-categories are displayed. We also had to deal with the lack of pagination for sub-categories (apparently lacking in Joomla, not just K2).

In the end it is coming together, although we had to modify core K2 files and these got overwritten in the latest upgrade, so not the cleanest solution. If our lead developer to find a little time, I'll ask him to document what he did so we can share the knowledge.

Is there a correct way to override view.html.php?

Category: English K2 Community

Is there a best practice if we need to edit code within /com_k2/views/item/view.html.php and /com_k2/views/itemlist/view.html.php?

It doesn't seem like the template overrides mentioned here are meant to override view.html.php.

We needed to add code to handle some extended sub-category functionality and when we upgraded K2, it of course overwrote our modifications.

Any advice would be appreciated.

K2 Upgrade Problems J1.5 2.5.3 and K2 2.5.5

Category: English K2 Community

I'm having a table problem with my K2 Items and Categories.

I used jUpgrade to update joomla and k2 and tthen I followed up by upgrading k2 (twice now to 2.5.5)

first problem was that k2 menu items became unwired, open and saving seemed to fix that.

remaining problem is that I can edit/save or create new k2 items. Getting the following error.

Joomla!
500 - An error has occurred.

Table 'datxxx_dbxxx.a86c3_finder_types' doesn't exist SQL=SELECT `id` FROM `a86c3_finder_types` WHERE `title` = 'K2 Item'

Please help, I'm stuck.

To everyone facing this issue simply find the "Smart Search - K2" plugin and disable it. We are going to add an extra check when K2 is installed to skip the finder plugin installation under Joomla! 1.6/1.7. However since Joomla! 1.6 and 1.7 are not LTS releases, anyone who uses those versions is highly encouraged to upgrade to Joomla! 2.5.

This thread is old, but I found the solution. I upgraded to version 2.5.5 i is resolved. To update, simply download the latest version of K2 and install the extensions manager. (preserves the posts but delete the css).

I hope it helps someone!

This is the latest blog post from the K2 dev's. K2 was slow to adopt 1.6/7, but has been upgraded several times for the ltr j2.5 already.

The very best way to keep K2 moving is by sharing and supporting in the community any changes or fixes that everyone makes, and help others with the sometimes steep learning curve.

K2 Menu Item issue in 2.5 upgrade from 1.5.23

Category: English K2 Community

There are two sql commands that sometimes need to be run to get all the tables fixed up after upgrade. Also saving the categories and items again sometimes fixes the issues.
see here

K2 Menu Item issue in 2.5 upgrade from 1.5.23

Category: English K2 Community

I just migrated/upgraded a site from 1.5.23 to joomla 2.5.3.
Everything went well and the DB is clean.

I reinstalled K2 (latest) and checked to see if my categories and items were still there. all went well so far.

I then went to my menu items and reassigned them to the k2 categories.
I get a 404 error message when clicking a k2 menu item, so I tried to make a new menu.

When I try to make a new menu item I get this warning:

Warning: is_file() [function.is-file]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/metadata.xml) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/www/virtual/jungfrau-guide.ch/:/usr/share/php/) in /var/www/virtual/jungfrau-guide.ch/htdocs/jupgrade/libraries/joomla/filesystem/file.php on line 523

When I make a menu item here and save it it doesn't work with k2, only with content items.

What am I doing wrong? The warning tells me something but not what to do about it.

This is the way k2 works. Changing it would require core changes that would be lost on upgrade

2.5.5 timezone problem

Category: English K2 Community

Hi.

I just upgraded from 2.5.4 to 2.5.5 just to solve the problem with the creation date that was present with the Greek Language. The problem was that the creation date was saved 2 hours behind chosen creation time no matter what timezone was selected in joomla settings.!

This was supposed to have been solved with 2.5.5 but now there is another problem!

No matter what timezone I select in joomla settings, when I create a new K2 item, time is 2 hours behind for both creation and publish date! The good news is that now they are both saved as they are supposed to (e.g whatever times I enter in creation and publish dates, they are saved) but the default times showing up in K2 item form are 2 hours behind!

Firthermore, all my previous K2 items' creation time now has gone 2 hours behind!!!

Can someone please help me? This timezone problem drives me mad.

Thank you in advance.

I looked at Fabrik as well. While it seems to offer the power I was looking for, it seems too difficult to even get started plus I was also looking for a component that can relatively keep up with Joomla's quick upgrade path.

Have you checked out community builder? That might work for you as well.. not sure if they have a free version though....

K2 Not showing in front end after upgrade to 2.5

Category: English K2 Community

Hi all!

After waiting a bit to upgrade again, I tried and everything worked alright. I did have some menu issues but managed to solve that, I think.

Now none of my k2 articles will show front end. I can see all the content via back end but it will only show the category image, the default one (with the folder and name beneath) and says it has 0 items in the folders. And sure enough when I click the folder it shows no articles inside. Again, all of my articles are there back end but will not show in the front.

I've exhausted all of my knowledge and I've not put my new site online, trying to figure what the problem is with K2 first. Any help would be appreciated!

Well, I found that K2 works perfectly with Joomla 2.5 ... Joomla 1.7 is missing several things that K2 refers to. I started hacking Joomla 1.7 to get everthing working - realized after a while that I'm just doing a painful manual upgrade to Joomla 2.5 .. so I just installed 2.5 :)

PHP conflict with K2 Module

Category: English K2 Community

There are several places on my website where I am using the K2 module [mod_k2_content_tag] to display article content and after my host upgraded the PHP on the server last week, errors started appearing. They said I need to contact the Joomla developer to find a solution, and since it is ONLY happening where I am using K2 modules, then it must be a conflict with the K2 code. Has anyone run into this problem and figured out how to fix it?

See these pages:
sustainableharvest.org/general/service-l...g-in-central-america - both in the body of the page and the right side column, there are a ton of errors after the title but before the content is displayed.

Joomla Version: 1.5.23
K2 Version: 2.5.5
PHP Version: 5.3.10
