Item Lightbox Dead

Category: English K2 Community

I found the answer. It *was* the JForms fix.

So that JForms drag and drop would work I had installed something called System - Mootools Upgrade. This killed the lightbox.

Since I only need MooTools Upgrade to make drag and drop work in JForms when *creating* forms, I have disabled it. I'll have to enable it if I want to create more forms, but for now it is off and the K2 item light-box is now working fine.

RSS Feed Pulls from Joomla, not K2 -- K2 2.4.1 Joomla 1.5.14 sh404SEF 1.0.11 Beta-build_147

Category: English K2 Community

Thanks.  These are things that a sales guy/business owner knows more than he'd like to know about, but is forced to do when no one else seems to be able to figure it out.

The site developer hasn't suggested the upgrades and I'd rather not break what's almost running by installing anything.  I did the K2 install on my own and asked the guys to recheck the RSS feed, but it didn;t work.  I see enough "fatal" error messages here and there on forums, that I feel like I'd risk ending up in a mess on my own.

What is the latest stable build for Joomla?  And also, what other components like Xmap might I have to look at when updating?  Thanks again!

Sorry if i confused. You probably need to read this first

After creating an override and assigning it to your category Css4k2 allows you to have a seperate custom copy of K2 css called youroverride_style.css in the same directory as the override. With this you can change how different categories look without changing the core k2 files and loosing the changes if you reinstall k2 or upgrade.

Thanks for all the replies!! I tried disabling the MooTools Upgrade and it didn't make any difference. I'm using GavickPro's MusicTube template, and before updating my K2 version, this was not an issue. :(

I have re-uploaded all of the K2 files, and carefully checked to see that they all have the correct permissions and are the correct file size, so I don't really know what to do next?

Just to be clear, the user saves and closes the item.  The item is checked in when the modal is closed.

Have you modified form.php?  Is this a new install or an upgrade?  What editor are you using?  If you do a global check-in after the author has saved and closed do you see the item get checked-in?  Are you using any other plugins with K2?

Add/Edit Item modal window has no WYSIWYG editor or place to put item content

Category: English K2 Community

Let me just say upfront that I have spent the last 2-3 hours scouring the forum's here and at joomla.org and cannot find a resolution to this issue.

When I go to edit and item from the front end, the modal window opens but there is no WYSIWYG editor or any area that would allow me to input the item content. This holds true for all the tabs: Content, Image, Image Gallery, Video, Extra Fields and Attachments. Clicking on any of those tabs does nothing either. I have posted a screenshot of my Edit Item modal window.

I have tried the following to resolve the issue to no avail:

disabled all plugins
turned off the JCE editor so that the user default was to have NO EDITOR
switched my template menu script from jQuery to S5 Effects
turned on debug mode in Joomla Global Config-saw no errors

I am using a Shape5 template with some of the following extensions:

JCE
JEvents Calendar
Akeeba Backup
EXTplorer
SWF Pro
JSN Imageshow
AllVideos
Simple Image Gallery
Mootools upgrade 1.2.4 (tried turning this plugin off too)

SEF not enabled....yet.

PHP 5.3.1

Joomla 1.5.20

Apache 2.2.14

This is my first time using K2 and I really like it, but I really need to get this front end editor working for my client. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi! Manolis. I found how to resolve this issue. I used the settings of the parent directory change de leading count to value = 0 on every count and now I just show up the childrens categories.

Every day I like more K2. I hope you can upgrade K2 to joomla 1.6.

Where K2 store articles images in database?

Hi all,

First the disclaimer, I do not consider myself a professional programmer in any sense, more the stubborn trial-and-error kind of guy. Anyhow, this filename thing was really bugging me, mainly for SEO purposes.

So I dug around some in the code. I usually try to avoid hacks as they can cause trouble at upgrades, but if you want to try the below it did what I wanted it to do for me. As usual, make back-ups of the files below before starting in case you mess up and need to revert.

So, enough with the disclaimers, here it goes (my K2 version by the way 2.4.1).

The basis for the whole thing is that I do not use the field Image Credits (found in K2 Item Editor -> Image) for anything, so decided to use that for file naming purposes. Also I do not have the lightbox function activated so I have not tested if that works with this hack.

1. in administrator/components/com_k2/models/item.php

Line 207, change to:

$handle->file_new_name_body = $row->image_credits;

2. components/com_k2/models/item.php

Starting on line 110, add the line:

$myfilename = $item->image_credits;

Then there are the following 16 lines below that which need to be modified to:

if (JFile::exists(JPATH_SITE.DS.'media'.DS.'k2'.DS.'items'.DS.'cache'.DS.$myfilename.'_XS.jpg')) $item->imageXSmall = JURI::root().'media/k2/items/cache/'.$myfilename.'_XS.jpg'; if (JFile::exists(JPATH_SITE.DS.'media'.DS.'k2'.DS.'items'.DS.'cache'.DS.$myfilename.'_S.jpg')) $item->imageSmall = JURI::root().'media/k2/items/cache/'.$myfilename.'_S.jpg'; if (JFile::exists(JPATH_SITE.DS.'media'.DS.'k2'.DS.'items'.DS.'cache'.DS.$myfilename.'_M.jpg')) $item->imageMedium = JURI::root().'media/k2/items/cache/'.$myfilename.'_M.jpg'; if (JFile::exists(JPATH_SITE.DS.'media'.DS.'k2'.DS.'items'.DS.'cache'.DS.$myfilename.'_L.jpg')) $item->imageLarge = JURI::root().'media/k2/items/cache/'.$myfilename.'_L.jpg'; if (JFile::exists(JPATH_SITE.DS.'media'.DS.'k2'.DS.'items'.DS.'cache'.DS.$myfilename.'_XL.jpg')) $item->imageXLarge = JURI::root().'media/k2/items/cache/'.$myfilename.'_XL.jpg'; if (JFile::exists(JPATH_SITE.DS.'media'.DS.'k2'.DS.'items'.DS.'cache'.DS.$myfilename.'_Generic.jpg')) $item->imageGeneric = JURI::root().'media/k2/items/cache/'.$myfilename.'_Generic.jpg';

3. When uploading a new file in the K2 Editor under Items -> Image in the backend, just make sure to put your filename in the "Item image credits" field (without any .jpg), for example: my_pretty_seo_image

Note: When I started this work I had not yet uploaded any images, so during testing I went in via FTP and erased all image files under media/k2/items/cache/, so I do not know how it works with overwriting existing images.

Now I am a bit mentally exhausted and in need of lunch so I might have forgotten some modification I made, but I hope the above is of some help to you.

/Markus

This also happened when I upgraded to 2.4.1 :(
I have commented out the lines indicated and still, gigantic empty spaces between the subcategories. I have also implemented the changes suggested here: community.getk2.org/forum/topics/how-to-eliminate-the-large
to no avail!

Where and when I can download K2 for Joomla 1.6?

I completely agree, after reading the Joomlaworks blog entry. The Joomla development team made a huge mistake by forcing those wanting to use 1.6 to go 'cold turkey' without any bridge to the thousands of 1.5 extensions in use. They then shot themselves in the 'other' foot by letting it be known 1.7 would begin development soon after 1.6 was released. K2 has become a critical component for Joomla sites. The 1.6 platform should have either included those features in its core, or understood a K2 1.6 version had to be available for Joomla 1.6 to be accepted.

Page load bottleneck fao Fotis - re twitter conversation

Category: English K2 Community

Just run some tests with Firebug on all 3 pages...

1. All 3 pages load at around 12-13 seconds which is normal for this amount of content for a site (and considering it's probably on shared hosting or some small VPS, right?)...

2. There is a 1.6-2 seconds lag from the server to start serving content

3. You have waaaaaay too many CSS files. Try grouping them into one. Same for JS files.

4. If there is no user input for content in the frontend (I'm not referring to contact forms etc.), you should enable Joomla's cache and set it around 15 mins, make sure ALL modules have the caching option set to "Global" and finally enable the system plugin called "Page Cache" (in its settings, use 2-3 mins for expiration and set browser caching to OFF). These steps will significantly improve the performance of your site.

Other things to take into consideration...

- If your category tree is too deep (e.g. 4,5,6 or more levels) and you got over 1000 articles in your site, make sure that your menu items set for fetching content from multiple categories have these categories "selected" by hand (in the menu item settings). That way, K2 knows exactly which categories to fetch (as you've explicitly selected them) and it does not do recurring queries to fetch content. Same goes for mod_k2_content. Additionally, upgrade to SVN 2.5. A small fix in the K2 router improved performance up to 500% on sites with more than a handful of articles.

- If you are on a shared hosting plan or VPS, there is always a chance the host machine's resources are consumed by some other site or VPS respectively ;)
