Thanks Terry, you'r eright - turning off heh compression helped, not sure how, but it did.

I can't see exactly which css file is being used in Firebug, but it looks a version of k2.css (but it's not the one in the component as I've tried changing that and nothing happens). Anyway, what I have been doing is getting the code right using firefox and then copying and pasting the amended code into the template's custom.css file (not sure whether that's the ideal method, but it seems to work - and I'm guessing will preserve teh changes when K2 component gets upgraded?).

I'm nearly there but where I'm getting stuck on the layout is reducing the font size of the heading 'More' and the 'two title links' below (all in the box). I also want to reduce the big gaps above and below them. I just can't get Firebug to help me on this one (???)

Problems with the latest version when adding an item

Category: English K2 Community

I have just upgraded the latest version of k2.

However, when I add an item, the tabs for image, image wall, video, external fields, and attachments do not work.  When I click on them, nothing happens.

Can you lease let me know if there is a fix for this problem?

Thanks.

Setting up a blog

I checked, and it is already set for the title to show.  The page title I originally had was one I set for that page in Joomla.  The K2 blog seems to have overwritten what ever was on that page before. It is just a plain title in a green box similar to the ones on the other pages. If there is anyway to put some text above the blog that might work too. I took out that top box, but now it looks even more strange without a title on the top. I am going to leave the css alone for now.

Thanks,  StephanieWilliam White said:

For the title try the category view options and set title to "show"

The idea is to set a top category, then put categories under it which will all inherit the same layout and template if selected and cut down on all the time it takes to set each category or item just like you want it. If your only doing one category its easy.

If i were going to start changing the way it looks ie:colors or other things, i would consider doing a k2 template

and if i were going to starting changing css i would use onecss4k2. Using these two will let you upgrade k2 without loosing your changes

The language file will also get overwritten if you upgrade K2. Rather than hack the item.php file I would add this to the css:

.itemExtraFields h3 {display:none;}

remove additional info in the extra fields

Category: English K2 Community

Hi all,

I think that is better to change (or delete) the "Additional info" from language file (en-GB.com_k2.ini) and not from .php code files (in every upgrade of K2 the " <?php echo JText::_('Additional Info'); ?> " will be again there!!!).

Inside \langauge\en_GB folder locate the file en-GB.com_k2.ini and change the following line to what ever you want:

ADDITIONAL INFO=Additional Info

Additional Info is the default value to be displayed in front end. You can change it to:

ADDITIONAL INFO=

to display ...nothing.

or

ADDITIONAL INFO=Product Details

to display Product Details in the fron end.

Hope that helped!

K2 Comments: Where is My Comment Form?

Category: English K2 Community

I've been working on this one for a couple of days and can't seem to figure out what is wrong.

In short I'd like to use K2 Comments, but I can't see the form to enter comments anywhere, on any article. Any ideas would be appreicated.  I will summarize what I have done so far to try to debug.

1. Upgrade to K2 version 2.4.1

2. Confirm that global, category, and even article level options all have 'Show Comments' set to yes

3.  Check that comments are turned on 'For Everyone'

4.  Changed templates to check that the issue was not related to an override

5. Changed comments so they are only visible to 'Registered users' no luck there either.

6.  Checked Page source, there seems to be no div tags related to displaying comments or a comment form.

Here is a link to one of the articles where I would like to enable comments.

OK manage to solve it. I was creating custom templates by copying the default files to template/html/com_k2/templates folder. So when i upgrade the files those in the template folder was not changed, had to manually replace the files. Works now :D

You lost me after 'backing up'... I can dump items and categories into csv files? I'll take a look and see if I can find it. We really only wanted a simple blog system, but K2 was all we could find at the time, seems a bit more than we need though. Especially upgrades. I didn't realize it was going to be so dramatic LOL! All I wanted to do was fix the errors and move on, at least for now, until I can fit all this into my schedule (kind of zonked at the moment). If there's an easy way to just get rid of those errors until I can do the upgrade, that would be more realistic, so hopefully the developer will jump in on this one. I sent him a message a few days ago, but still waiting for a response. If I hear anything I'll post it here in case anyone else runs into the same issue. If there's a solution, that is, without having to dump and re-install and all that.

William, thanks so much for responding, I do appreciate that you took the time to share info :)

Updated K2 and now can't add image with image tab browser???

Category: English K2 Community

Hi,

I upgraded from 2.2 - 2.4.1, but for some reason when I use the images tab in an item to add an image

I receive an error saying "NOT FOUND The requested URL /images/.....".

When I click the browser server buttonI do see my images folder with images located in my images main directory folder , but when I click to insert the image it says it can't find it.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

@William White

(I am not all that familiar with Joomla, usually don't use it, so I'm a bit unsure when it comes to details unfortunately. I only worked on the site for a family friend.)

RE: Did the k2 work properly before the site was hacked?

K2 was working but we had different settings before the hack. I never figured out how to allow frontend users to blog, so I had setup a different form on the site that allowed them to submit there. The site has tons of other features, so K2 is just one of the available items. We're using Mighty Membership and Mighty Registration (commercial plugins) to access other features in the site.

I was trying to upgrade because there was no link next to the Category titles for submitting articles. Since the hack we changed the requirements on the site to allow for any Registered member to submit to the Blog in K2, but I still don't see any links available to allow for users to post. It just shows the Category title. Above that on the blog main page is where the list of errors appear.

RE: How did you get the site cleaned up, and what kind of hack was it.

I never found out what kind of hack it was, hosting provider was no help. But the site was completely down at that point, so I ended up creating a new database and installing everything (ugh) by hand, then imported only parts of the database for the content mainly.

The original version of K2, the one we're using now that is the beta version, has different tables in the database, they are named differently, and there are many more tables with the new version. I saw the new tables when I tried to upgrade. But when I followed the instructions to upgrade, all the old content was no longer available, so it was like a new install, and that's why I went back to using the old one, but now there are so many errors I don't know what to do.

Did the k2 work properly before the site was hacked?

How did you get the site cleaned up, and what kind of hack was it.

I would first secure the backups and put them on a localhost for testing.

I never used the first versions of k2 so i do not know if there was always a seamless upgrade path with no changes to the tables or structures, but for the last few the fix was to reinstall over the top.

I installed K2 version 1.0.1beta2 about a year ago for a friend's site, it was hacked, then I tried to restore everything, but K2 never worked properly. People were complaining they couldn't submit blog posts so I tried Upgrading to the latest K2 version today, and that didn't work. Something was wrong, because the Upgrade didn't work, so all the blog posts and categories weren't visible on the Frontend. I checked the database and still see the old database tables with different names, so the content was still there.

To try and fix the site, I uploaded all the old files from the site backup. Now I can see the old categories and posts again, but I'm also seeing a ton of errors on the first page and repeated errors on internal pages; See Errors below (note "PATH_TO_ROOT" replaces the real path):

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /PATH_TO_ROOT/components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 136Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /PATH_TO_ROOT/components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 108Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /PATH_TO_ROOT/components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 108Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /PATH_TO_ROOT/components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 136Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /PATH_TO_ROOT/components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 162Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /PATH_TO_ROOT/components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 108Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /PATH_TO_ROOT/components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 108Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /PATH_TO_ROOT/components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 136Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /PATH_TO_ROOT/components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 162Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /PATH_TO_ROOT/components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 108Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /PATH_TO_ROOT/components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 108Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /PATH_TO_ROOT/components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 136Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /PATH_TO_ROOT/components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 162

HELP PLEASE!?  This is a live site, so I'm panicking. I don't know what else to do at this point. I can't Upgrade because it breaks the blog, and don't know where to begin to fix the errors... Anyone?

K2 map upgrade?

Category: English K2 Community

We have used various map plug-ins in other Joomla websites we have done. We have begun using K2 with our Joomla websites and are using the K2Dynamic map module but it isnt quite as "dynamic" as we would like.  We are doing a site with many businesses like a directory and we would like if it is possible to ...

1. Have a map on category page show all the items connected to that category listed on one larger map.

2. If there is any way someone clicked on the point marking the business would like to the item page that has been created for that business.

i.e a category is Italian restaurants

When landing on the category page all the items (restaurants) underneath Italian would be listed on the map, then the points are also linkable to the items page.

3. On the Items page can you have a get directions like google has?

I know this may be a subject already discussed but I haven't it in posts yet.  Does anyone know if any other map map modules are integrate-able with K2 or how we can sync any other map modules with K2?

                                                                           Thanks

all I've heard (in the 404Sef forums) is that they have discussed it with the K2 makers and it may find it's way into the next K2 upgrade but that its up to K2 to implement.
